Getting to know Dr. Cheryl Pfent

*This provider only treats residents residing in the state of California. Dr. Cheryl A. Pfent has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist for over 30 years. She graduated with her Doctorate in Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology, an APA accredited program. She completed her APA accredited internship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Over the past 30 years she has held positions in the Inland Empire/Central Coast, providing oversight for both behavioral health and SUD programs. She has worked extensively in most clinical venues as a provider and supervisor of other clinicians and interns. Dr. Pfent supervised and provided clinical services at Temecula Mental Health for Riverside County. Moving on she provided oversight of multiple outpatient and residential programs as Senior Vice President of Southern California for Anka Behavioral Health. Mental Health Systems was the next stop on her employment journey where Dr. Pfent was Vice President over Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. In addition to her administrative duties, she managed a robust private practice. Dr. Pfent used her training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, and Solution Focused Therapy to treat a client population ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric clients. She worked with individuals, couples and families guiding them in dealing with their mental health issues. During this time Dr. Pfent was appointed to the Board of Directors of California Institute of Mental Health, where she served for a maximum six year term. Most recently Dr. Pfent served as Behavioral Health Director at Indian Health Council. She managed several grants, clinical programs and substance use disorder programs. She continued providing clinical services to a Native American population and dealt with complex cultural issues. Dr. Pfent began her career as a Registered Nurse but when mental illness struck her family personally she felt compelled to further her education to better understand mental illness and deal with issues facing her family member from a position of knowledge. She comes to the field of Psychology with a personal and unique perspective.
