Getting to know Dr. Christina Escuder

I'm a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Wisconsin and North Carolina, offering psychotherapy services via telehealth. I have some availability on weekends and evenings, so please reach out to discuss scheduling if those times are not readily available. I am currently credentialed with Optum (UHC/UMR/affiliates) and Aetna. As a psychologist, I do not prescribe psychotropic medications. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University and completed my internship at Henry Ford Health System, followed by a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. I'm so happy you're here and looking forward to connecting. My focus is to help you feel better and live life more fully. I have worked with clients across adulthood who are experiencing a wide range of psychological and medical concerns. I recognize how debilitating these experiences can be and how they change one’s life in many ways. Change is really difficult, even under the best of circumstances, and regardless of the concern that has brought you to seek therapy, this is an important first step toward feeling better. It is a privilege to support my patients during these times, and I look forward to supporting you on this journey. I utilize thoughtful, values-based discussions, exploration of problematic patterns, and adaptive strategies to manage psychological distress. Sessions may focus on processing particularly difficult experiences or building skills to manage specific symptoms. I emphasize the value of the protected space within psychotherapy and the therapeutic environment, where I focus on essential components such as compassion, empathy, and discovering what strategies work best for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most patients ask what the difference is between a psychiatrist and psychologist. A key difference is often that psychiatrist have the ability to prescribe medications. As a psychologist I work with patients to process, understand, and learn new tools to approach or manage their stressors differently.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Upon meeting a patient for the first time I work to understand your history, your strengths, and your unique experiences. Leveraging my clinical expertise we work together to identify clear treatment goals, monitor progress over time, and adjust goals throughout our work together.
