Dr. Christine Calix earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Psychology in 1980. She completed her postdoctoral internship with the U.S. Navy, treating substance abuse and military adjustment issues. With over 40 years of experience, she has worked extensively with adolescents and adults in both private and public settings. Dr. Calix provides compassionate, culturally sensitive therapy for individuals and couples, fostering growth, self-awareness, and resilience. She has held clinical positions with the U.S. Navy, San Diego County Mental Health Forensic Services, and the State of California. While in the Navy, she helped design a psychological screening tool for recruits and led multiple base mental health clinics. She specializes in stress management, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, addictions, ADHD, postpartum disorders, relationship challenges, work stress, grief, women’s issues, anger management, parenting concerns, and gender identity. She serves a diverse clientele from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Dr. Calix takes an integrative and collaborative approach to treatment within a humanistic-existential framework. She tailors individualized treatment plans using evidence-based methods, including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, mindfulness-based, and existential therapies. A member of the American Psychological Association, California Psychological Association, San Diego Psychological Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, Dr. Calix remains dedicated to professional excellence. Originally from New Orleans, she has lived in California for over 45 years. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and playing piano. She is the proud parent of her son, Christopher, and her cat, Sebastian.
