Hello, I'm Dr. Christopher Jackson, a dedicated psychiatrist licensed in DC, Virginia, and Maryland. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Howard University College of Medicine and completed my psychiatry and neurology training at Howard University Hospital. I founded Empathy Wellness Center to help individuals achieve optimal well-being, free from judgment or inequity. Specializing in mood, anxiety, thought, and psychotic disorders, I offer comprehensive services centered around medication management. My expertise also encompasses a wide range of specialties, including ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, dual diagnosis, OCD, self-harming, sleep issues, stress, suicidal ideation, as well as trauma and PTSD.
What should a new client know about working with you?
If patient-centered care interests you and you're currently dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder or a combination of any diagnoses and/or mental health symptoms that is limiting your day-to-day function, I hope you will request an appointment. Your mental health matters.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Evidence-based care includes both meds and therapy, so appointments with me tend to be a blend (noting full time therapy in addition to our sessions is often helpful). But all healing starts with taking the time to listen and understand the problem from the patient's perspective, develop a plan together and monitor progress towards the patient's goals.

Health insurance mandates tend to limit time allotted to each patient visit and simply do not match our patient-centered model of care.
We understand affordability is a key component to access and we are happy to provide a “superbill” for our patients to submit for out-of-network reimbursements from their insurance companies (or HSA/FSA plans). Additionally, our providers only schedule follow-up appointments with patients when they are actually required for effective treatment vs. requiring a high frequency of appointments for stable patients.

Dr. Jackson is very knowledgeable and a really good listener. The only issue I had is that the appointment seemed very clinical and robotic. He asked all the relevant questions, but I felt he was awkward and did not mirror my emotions. He seems very capable medically speaking but he has a tough personality to warm up to.

I had a great overall experience with Dr, Jackson and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Psychiatrist! The first thing that impressed me was his availabilities with first time patient appointments! I needed an appointment and he had one within a matter of days, whereas everyone else in the area did not have appointments for months! The next thing that impressed me was his immediate bedside manner and his willingness to listen to everything I had to say! I felt heard and felt like I was actually a person rather than an object being talked at and I felt like I was apart of my care!
