Getting to know Dr. Clark Thompson

Dr. Clark Thompson is a clinical psychologist who has dedicated his career to helping hundreds of individuals and families cultivate insight and develop skills to enhance their lives. After completing his undergraduate studies at St. Louis University, he earned a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and completed his clinical training at BaySide NeuroRehab Services in Portland, Maine. Dr. Thompson has worked in a range of settings, including private practices, hospitals, and community mental health centers, providing neuropsychological evaluations, psychotherapy, qEEG brain mapping, and neurofeedback services. He also lectured on the effects of substance abuse on brain functioning while on staff at Holy Family Medical Center. Dr. Thompson has experience working with adults, adolescents, children, and their families, providing evidence-based mental health care in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment. He is committed to helping his clients gain insight, develop self-awareness, and learn effective strategies to manage their mental health issues. Not just limited to his professional endeavors in psychology, Dr. Thompson has also ventured into the domain of literature, authoring the children's book titled "Luna and the Lost Stars: A Bedtime Tale." This rhyming story follows the enchanting adventures of Luna, a young girl who voyages across the cosmos to restore missing stars to the night sky. In his spare time, Dr. Thompson loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys playing golf, watching sports, and reading about science, philosophy, and technology.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Do you, your child, or a loved one suffer from brain related issues such as ADHD, autism, learning disorders, concussion, dementia, stroke, anxiety, depression, or other issues? If so, I can help. I'm a clinical psychologist who specializes in neuropsychological and psychological assessments. I have the expertise and skill set required to evaluate individuals with brain-related disorders and concerns. I have years of experience assessing conditions including but not limited to ADHD, learning disorders, autism, developmental delay, traumatic brain injury, stroke, intellectual disability, and dementia. Please note I am not accepting psychotherapy clients. My practice is focused on providing comprehensive neuropsychological testing to individuals seeking assessment services. Thank you for your understanding, and I encourage you to explore the neuropsychological testing services I offer to determine if they may be a suitable fit for your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process for working with clients undergoing neuropsychological evaluations begins with a comprehensive interview, which allows me to gain an understanding of you or your child's background history and presenting issues. This interview is essential for gathering information about personal, educational, and occupational experiences, as well as any relevant medical and mental health history. By obtaining a thorough understanding of your unique circumstances, I am better equipped to tailor the assessment process to your specific needs and concerns. Following the initial interview, you or your child will undergo a series of neuropsychological tests and questionnaires designed to evaluate your cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and personality functioning. These assessments can provide valuable insights into areas such as attention, memory, reasoning, executive functioning, and emotional regulation, among others. Once the testing is complete, I will analyze the results and create a comprehensive formal report outlining your strengths and weaknesses, as well as any relevant diagnoses and treatment recommendations. At a subsequent appointment, we will review the findings together, discuss the implications, and develop a plan for moving forward. This collaborative process ensures you are well-informed about your assessment results and equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to address your identified needs. In addition to neuropsychological evaluations, I offer qEEG brain mapping—a cutting-edge tool that captures the brain's electrical activity, providing insights into its functional processes. Ideal for clients with clinical issues rooted in neurological bases, qEEG brain maps can reveal areas of irregularity or deviation. When combined with a neuropsychological assessment, it offers a holistic view of your cognitive and neurological health, ensuring a more tailored treatment approach.
