I believe that healing happens within us because we have character strengths that are activated during stressful events. In other words, we don’t know our own strengths until we’ve been through some challenges. Listening intentionally, I often hear a person’s unfolding story—revealing concerns, solutions, and resources for a life fulfilled. Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Dana Girard, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Lic. No. PSY25448). I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA, where I studied western psychology and eastern philosophy. My post-graduate studies continued at The Process Therapy Institute in Santa Clara, CA, where I studied an integration of Sand Play Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Expressive Arts Therapy known as Process Therapy. My post-graduate studies also included training at The Institute for Rapid Resolution Therapy in Los Angeles, CA where I was trained in Insight-Oriented Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I received clinician certification at both institutes. My professional experience includes developmental and managerial experiences as a clinical director for Bay Area non-profits whose focuses have included diversity and inclusion education, substance rehabilitation programs, wellness center development, intern supervision management, and community mental health. (Please read about my amazing associates, Amanda Martino and Maria Castaneda. I’ve had the intense pleasure of supervising them and working beside them!) Before joining my profession, I noticed that I often found the impact of our experiences fascinating! While working with trauma, I discovered that our traumatic experiences, though difficult, often awaken character strengths that support our resiliency. So, my approach to working through traumatic experiences is a focus on post-traumatic growth, identifying strengths and their effective applications.
