“I'm absolutely pleased with Dr. Freeland for therapeutic treatment. He's extremely non-judgmental and is easy to open up to. Oftentimes he asks just the right question that unlocks a new pathway of thinking or helps me look at things from a different perspective. I'm only a few months in, but have already felt a marked improvement in areas I've been struggling with. ”

Getting to know Dr. Daniel Freeland

I am an interactive and compassionate psychologist who sees young, middle-aged, and older adults for individual and group psychotherapy. I have helped those suffering from eating concerns (binge, disordered, and restrictive eating), perfectionism, depression, and anxiety, major life transitions, grief and loss, relationship conflicts, complex trauma (such as emotional, physical, and sexual abuse), as well as struggles with shame, self-worth, and feeling abandoned. I have worked with people from various ethnic, racial, religious, and sexual (LGBTQIA+) backgrounds. Also, as a first-time parent, I am aware of the many struggles that come along with parenthood and encourage parents to talk about their experiences since it stirs up mixed and complex feelings such as exhaustion, frustration, happiness, and joy (and many more).

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from a psychodynamic and relational perspective, which means we look at the impact of your past and present relationships with family and friends, narrowing in on how they have impacted you, your sense of self, and your various identities/roles. You may be aware of these influences, but there’s a great chance we will uncover more. We will explore how your past accommodations helped you earlier in life, but no longer serve your growth. This work can sometimes be painful, so I balance our therapeutic work with humor and irreverence when appropriate to add levity to our time together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to earn your trust in creating a therapeutic space that is safe and supportive. I know this work can be painful, so I take a nonjudgmental approach to build an environment where you can feel safe expressing any and all emotions (the good and the bad) that you've been holding.

Provider was very professional. Yet the appt did not feel scripted or robotic. It was very comfortable and conversation flowed. It was the first visit but am very pleased with everything so far. Look forward to my next visit.

My treatment with Dr. Freeland has been excellent. He has been kind, warm, and accepting as a fumble my way through trying to decipher what emotions I'm feeling and how to control my thoughts. Before starting therapy with Dr. Freeland, I was afraid of what the therapist would think of my issues. Dr. Freeland, however, has been completely non-judgmental and has provided a comfortable environment for me to feel at ease and express myself fully. I feel that Dr. Freeland's treatment has been insightful and has enabled me to make significant improvement. I look forward to further treating with Dr. Freeland and would highly recommend him to anyone.
Daniel has been helping me for a few visits to realize a few things about myself and my relationships with others. I am not done exploring these new findings and I appreciate the patience and understanding from Daniel, who gives me plenty of things to think about to better get in touch with myself.
Dr. Freeland listens carefully to all you have to say and ask questions that makes you think. I'm early in my treatment but I love what I am experiencing and finding out about myself so far.
After a couple of sessions, I already feel understood. Daniel has helped me unearth some memories I hadn't realized were still affecting me today by asking pertinent and astute questions. I'm excited to continue treatment and dig even deeper with him!
