Dr. Darryl Cuda, MD
*Please be advised, Dr. Cuda is a specialist of the Lower Leg, Foot and Ankle only. Dr. Darryl D. Cuda was born in Hawaii and raised in Portland, OR, graduating from Portland State University in Bio & Music. Comissioned in '82, he attended the U.S. Military Medical Academy, USUHS, and graduated with an M.D. degree in '86. He did his Internship, and Residency in Ortho at Texas Tech University/William Beaumont Medical Center and became board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery in '93. The following four years were spent in Europe as a Deputy Commander of a MASH unit, and staff Ortho Surgeon. After spending nine months in Bosnia, He was awarded as the U.S. Army Surgeon of the Year for '96/97. Upon returning to San Antonio, he fellowshiped in Orthopaedic Traumatology at Parkland Memorial in Dallas, and returned as Co-director of Ortho trauma, and Chief of the Ortho Foot & Ankle Service. He elected to leave the military in '98 to pursue private practice. Dr. Cuda has been involved with the military for a good portion of his life. Aside from the 16 yrs he spent on active duty involved in medicine, his father was career Navy and a WWll/Korean War veteran. His oldest brother was a highly decorated Vietnam MedEvac pilot, and his middle brother was also an Army physician. His wife, an academy classmate and physician, is a retired Colonel and currently the director of childhood obesity at The Childrens Hospital of San Antonio. Dr. Cuda is currently an Elite, All-American, nationally-ranked Top 50 USA Triathlete. Because of his devotion to competitive endurance sports, he has become an advocate for those involved in endurance and related sports interests.
