About Dr. Darryl Cuda
Please be advised, Dr. Cuda is a specialist of the Lower Leg, Foot, and Ankle only. Dr. Darryl D. Cuda was born in Hawaii and raised in Portland, OR, graduating from Portland State University in Bio & Music. Commissioned in 1982, he attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1986. He completed his Internship in Orthopedics and Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Texas Tech University/William Beaumont Army Medical Center and became board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1993.
The following four years were spent in Europe as a Deputy Commander of a MASH unit and staff Orthopaedic Surgeon. After spending nine months in Bosnia, he was awarded U.S. Army Surgeon of the Year for 1996/97. Upon returning to San Antonio, he completed a Fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at Brooke Army Medical Center/Parkland Memorial in Dallas and returned as Co-director of Orthopedic Trauma and Chief of the Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Service. He elected to leave the military in 1998 to pursue private practice.
Dr. Cuda has been involved with the military for a significant portion of his life. Aside from the 16 years he spent on active duty involved in medicine, his father was a career Navy man and a WWII/Korean War veteran. His oldest brother was a highly decorated Vietnam MedEvac pilot, and his middle brother was also an Army physician. His wife, an academy classmate and physician, is a retired Colonel and currently the director of childhood obesity at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
Dr. Cuda is currently an Elite, All-American, nationally ranked Top 50 USA Triathlete. Because of his devotion to competitive endurance sports, he has become an advocate for those involved in endurance and related sports interests.
