For me, being able to improve someone's vision while at the same time evaluating with their overall health was the key determinant in wanting to be an optometrist. In my spare time, I enjoy "Spending time with my wife, 2 daughters and family, traveling, reading, bible study, cooking, and sports/athletics. My favorite part of helping my patients is being able to improve their vision and evaluate overall health, but also making relationships with them and getting to know about their interests and families, etc.
