Getting to know Dr. David Freedman

Life transitions-whether getting married, starting a new job, having children, or retiring-bring new and unique challenges that require careful navigation. Often, the difficulties we face during these times are influenced by how we have managed previous major life transitions. My approach to psychotherapy involves exploring not only the current challenges but also any past obstacles we have encountered. This helps identify interpersonal, internal, and skills-based needs that may be hindering successful navigation of the present situation. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University and completed a Fellowship in Psychology at Lenox Hill Hospital, which have equipped me with the expertise to support clients through these complex changes. Please note, I am not accepting Medicaid as a secondary insurance at this time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a licensed psychologist (NYS 025287) with training at Zucker Hillside Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital working with both adults and older adults in inpatient and outpatient settings. I have experience working with individuals dealing with a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and personality and interpersonal issues.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please reach out if you are interested in collaboratively working towards addressing the life transitions you are presented with. I take a non-directive approach as we explore ways in which we might approach the present situation differently. Often, having an impartial set of eyes and ears allows us to think of possibilities we didn't consider before.

This appointment was over Zoom, so some of the questions/answers do not apply. I was very pleased with my first appointment with Dr Freedman. He was able to discern things about me just by listening. At times I thought he wasn't, but then his questions showed that he truly was analyzing my words before he spoke to me about them. I will certainly be continuing to see him.
