Patient reviews for Dr. Dawna Gutzmann
Dr. Dawna Gutzmann has lots of availability so I recommend that for patients who need someone to see right away in regards to starting medication. However, I think she’s a bit judgmental and hard to open up with, which is especially important to consider for people seeking mental health treatment.
Dr. Gutzmann was attentive and interested to make sure she understood my experience before offering a prescription, as opposed to making her own assumptions and just keeping me on the same medication.
Really felt like she listened and carefully considered what I had to say.
She was able to see me right away. Was very thorough and helpful.
The doctor was not sympathetic. It’s hard enough to go in and talk about such personal aspects of your life and having a doctor who makes you feel like they are questioning if you are actually feeling what you’re feeling does not help. Left the appointment feeling so much worse. Hopefully it hasn’t been the same for others. I will not continue seeing Dr. Gutzmann.
She is very professional and also very caring. She is also a great listener and note taker. She asked questions in a way that was respectful and detailed.
Abrasive personality, judgmental, uptight.
Dr Gutzmann is very helpful and professional.
I have been seeing Dr. Gutzmann for years and she has always been highly effective as well as kind. She has helped me a lot, particularly with sleep.
Great listener - does not judge. Also loops the patient into the decision-making process when deciding on best course of action and treatment.
Dr. Gutzmann was very helpful. She immediately identified the problems I was having and proposed multiple solutions. She walked me through all of the pros and cons and offered her professional advice on what she thought was best. She was very supportive and made me feel like I was making the right choice for my emotional health. Outside of that, she is extremely prompt returning calls and is super easy to work with.
Dr. Gutzmann was very kind and soft spoken, very accommodating. With my uncommon issues she was still intent on listening and finding a way to help; which she did. I look forward to future conversations with her.
Very helpful and knowledgeable
Wonderful assessment, very thorough. Dr. Gutzmann cares about what you think and your preferences for treatment.
Dr. Gutzmann was very thorough and gave me several options for choices of treatments. I would highly recommend her.
Disorganized, confused my appointment with the patient before me, who was summarily sent away with instructions to reschedule. I was similarly instructed to use ZocDoc to schedule a follow up "but wait a little while" before attempting, as she "didn't have time" to enter future appointments at the moment. Kept no scheduling organizer on her person, not even a paper calendar. Bedside manner was standoffish and dismissive, contradicted herself and changed her appraisal several times. I've never felt more confused and attacked in such a setting. Zero confidence in her expertise, or her professionalism.
Dr. Gutzmann was so friendly and calming. She really listened to me and made me feel very normal. She then talked about my medication and its side effects so I was fully informed before I left her office.
I enjoyed seeing Dr. Gutzmann. I have been to one other psychiatrist in the past...It was an " in and out" type of appointment with that particular psychiatrist... With Dr. Gutzmann , she listened to all of my concerns in a professional yet caring way! I will def. be going back to her in the future!
This was my first time visit and she is great! Definetely very engaged, listens and care. I was very pleased with the services and will continue to see the Dr for treatment. Highly recommend her!
Very smooth process and easy to work with. She listened to my concerns, advised proper medication and provided excellent details on the pharmacology of the prescribed medicine.
Her office is extremely calming. She is very knowledgeable and listens to what is going on & is quick to start a plan of action. Highly recommend
She was very rude to me and did seem to pay attention to any of my concerns. We would communicate through email and she would forget all my side effects and insists medication was working even though I told her it didn’t.
I don’t recommend her at all.
She’s honestly one of THE WORST psychiatrists that I’ve ever met with. Our first session went horrible; she was incredibly condescending and had very pointed remarks and opinions on medications I was currently taking before I had met her. I let it slide because I thought maybe I was being sensitive about it. She overall made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. She asked me to schedule a follow up appointment about 2 months later and I agreed. This appointment was just as worse, even more so. I was trying to reach out for help with regards to a medication re-evaluation. She scrutinized every little thing I said, and even somewhat questioned my sanity when trying to describe why I asking for a re-evaluation. Look, if you’re the type of patient who is looking for a more soft and caring psychiatric visit, maybe someone who actually cares about what you have to say about your recent developments instead of criticizing it, I would highly suggest going elsewhere. If you’d like someone who has a bit of a domineering attitude with regards to your mental state, and is factual, a little cold, and to the point - low and behold, look no further! Dr. Dawna Gutzmann is the one for you. 10/10 would not recommend.
Very personable! Made me feel comfortable in my first session.
Dr. Gutzmann was very warm and kind. She patiently listened to my concerns and gave sound advice. She made me feel comfortable and presented me with options to explore.
Dr. Gutzmann is a wonderful doctor. She is very caring and compassionate and she listens.
Great doctor. Nice and straightforward. Very helpful. Knows her stuff.
I went to this appointment with an open mind. She called before letting me know that she did not deal with patients with psychosis and was not well equipped. Regardless I needed a refill on my prescription and a referral to a specialist which she said she could do. When I got there, she did not want to hear me speak at all. She only wanted to prescribe me the medication. I asked her for a referral and she said that she could not give me one (which I had asked for before the appointment). Right in the middle of the appointment she told me we could end the appointment immediately. I was confused and shocked. That is my experience with her.
I was late due to unfortunate events. She was forgiving and professional and was able to schedule another appointment quickly. I will be able to rate more accurately after my full visit tomorrow.
Dr. Gutzmann met me right away and offered a caring and thorough assessment of my concerns. I felt like she genuinely wanted to understand my experiences, and she did not rush to label me with a diagnosis or send me off with medication. I left the first session feeling like there was a concrete plan for helping me with the concerns that were important to me.
I am not one to write reviews but my experience with Dr. Gutzmann was just very disappointing and I wouldn't ever recommend her to anyone. She was extremely condescending and seemed to only care about how I was going to compensate her. Everyone has different personalities, however, I believe that as a health provider, specially a mental health provider, you should show some tact and sympathy toward your patients.
My visit with Dr. Gutzmann went very well. Dr. Gutzmann is very polite, professional, and considerate. The atmosphere in Dr. Gutzmann's office is also very comforting which helps provide for a very comforting experience. I would recommend Dr. Gutzmann to others.
I highly recommend Dr. Gutzmann! It's always easy to schedule an appointment with her and she returns phone calls/emails super quickly. Dr. Gutzmann is so kind and personable and makes me feel so comfortable as well!
She was very condescending and not helpful to my situation. I wouldn't recommend.
Dawna listens thoroughly, and provides excellent feedback.
After one meeting I can tell she is very knowledgable and cautious which I appreciate
Very knowledgeable about which medications would be the best approach for my situation. Also very to the point with minimal wasted time, wanting to get everything I came in for accomplished in the first visit. Feel comfortable reaching out and setting up follow up as needed with Dr Gutzman
I might be biased having seen some wonderful mental health providers, but I was not impressed during my appointment with Dr. Gutzmann. I was going through an extremely hard period of my life and feeling a lot of things and at one point was told that what I am saying is contradictory. Sorry I felt a lot. I recommend working on empathy, especially for someone crying in your office. At the end she went to prescribe medication and after explaining difficulties with an eating disorder, she started off telling me the meds she chose might cause weight gain. Threw away the script and never went back.
I had a super short 3 minute wait in the waiting room and my visit was excellent after. Dr. Gutzmann is very smart, knows a lot about the variety of medications on the market, and also about alternative treatments. I did not want a doctor who'd say "practice yoga and exercise more, let your chi balance itself out." I wanted medicine for depression and anxiety. She listened and tailored my visit to my needs, which I appreciated. Loved everything about my visit and am excited to be working on my mental health with her as a partner.
Very nice. Took the time to listen.
Dr Gutzmann draws from 20+ years of experience allowing her to provide provable action plans using real examples of previous successes. Great listener who truly cares for the patient
Dr. Gutzmann is always, kind, helpful, and professional. -
Dr. Dawna Gutzmann discouraged me so fully from seeking mental health treatment that after four years of trying to get help, I don't think I will ever step foot in the office of a psycho-professional again. As a disclaimer I have never in my life felt the need to rate or review anything online. I understand how a job can wear a person down, and I expect a job as a psycho-professional is particularly draining. THAT BEING SAID: I strongly and urgently advise anyone with any fragility to their state of mind, sense of hope or self worth NOT TO SEE DR. GUTZMANN. I could type out an essay on all the reasons why my visit with her had such a bleakly discouraging effect on me. Instead, for now, and for everyone's honest safety I will write you a list and hope you hear my warning. Dr. Dawna Gutzmann -spoke to me about her title as a 'psychiatrist who does psychotherapy for a small percentage of her appointments' as if I should have known better as someone who is NOT an MD in a psychological field and was unsure where to begin my mental health treatment -told me "no, that doesn't really make sense" when I was trying to explain my experience of depression -told me I had to fit into one of her categories like I was taking a multiple-choice test when I expressed I didn't feel particularly one thing or the other -explained to me, for about the last ten minutes of our time, how I was withdrawing from her questions and being difficult, insinuating I was the problem and that I was "doing therapy wrong." She was laughing while saying this. Laughing. When I told her that was what I was hearing from her, she lectured me on the semantics of my statement that it "wasn't actually therapy," but a "consultation." Dr. Dawna Gutzmann, if you ever read this, I'm sure you know exactly who I am and recall our appointment. If you ever read this, I STRONGLY recommend you take a break, a vacation, because as a woman with your educational background I am SURE you have better training than that. I am SURE I am not the first person to walk into your office with some issues and some confusion on what the right steps to solve them are. I am SURE you have more patience and basic human kindness in you than what you showed me. If you ever read this, hear me when I say that you just personally caused me to never ever seek professional mental health treatment and while I'm sure that was not your intention, that is what your impatience, or clumsiness, or tiredness, or jadedness or whatever it was, caused. You and I are both lucky that I am feeling stronger right now than I have in the past. If you are reading this, accept that our appointment caused me a lot of pain, accept this criticism even with the pain driving it, and DO BETTER, because nothing about that was okay. I feel violated, defeated, belittled. Do better.
I highly recommend Dr. Gutzmann. Great experience!
Dr Gutzmann was nice, didn’t seem to be too bothered by me being overly talkative, shared her honest opinion, and explained why she thought something would/wouldn’t work! I always appreciate understand why doctors do or don’t do something. It makes me trust them more.
Dr. Gutzmann was very thorough in her evaluation process and took the time out to get to know my mindset and answer all questions I had.
Dr. Gutzmann provided a very comprehensive evaluation of my needs as a client. I appreciated the attention to detail given by Dr. Gutzmann. Dr. Gutzmann is very knowledgeable and I like her treatment approach that is holistic.
I found Dr. Gutzmann to be a very compassionate, accepting and understanding doctor. She was extremely thorough and informative in our intake session and I felt as though she truly listened to what I had to say. I will definitely continue to see her.
