Dr. Denise Whittam, O.D., earned her Doctor of Optometry, as well as her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, from the State University of New York. She has been a member of the American Optometric Association for 35 years and was honored by the New York State Optometric Association with the distinguished Frederic A. Woll Award in 2022 for her continuous service and leadership. Her patient base ranges from school-age children through the geriatric population. Was not provided receipt or prescription for days after my visit until I requested it. Was told my insurance was accepted but it was never applied to my bill. Finally, I was incorrectly (more likely dishonestly) billed for the most expensive appointment of a contact lens fitting, when I have been using contacts for several years.

I had an excellent experience- I was seen right away and Dr. Whittam was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. All other staff members were very helpful and the whole process was fast and efficient.

Dr. Whittam is superb. She performed a thorough eye exam, and was friendly and efficient. She said she specializes in contact lenses, but her assessment of my glasses prescription was perfect. We chatted about my eye health concerns, and she made me feel at ease and not at all rushed. The staff at this Cohen's Optical location are also top notch, and were extremely helpful in helping me pick out frames, providing expert opinions on styles, and discussing pricing.

I had a positive experience with Dr. Whittam. I had to find a new doctor due to a change in my insurance plan and I picked Dr. Whittam because of great reviews. The front office staff was courteous and knowledgeable. The office was clean. The wait time was minimal. The doctor took her time to examine me and made very helpful recommendations. I would definitely go back!

I was told my checkup would cost a certain price and no higher. After my checkup they tell my I have to pay a different higher price. The person that told me the first price shrugged her shoulders and wouldn't even say anything when I said she told me a different price. I feel like I was swindled

Dr. Whittam is amazing. I had a concerning vision issue and was able to see her the same day. The reception was very warm and welcoming, and they very kindly helped me figure out my insurance. Dr. Whittam was equally warm and very easy to talk to, and put my worries to rest. I explained my symptoms and she immediately knew what it was and really took her time to explain the reason and causes and what to do to help moving forward. The eye examination was very thorough and extremely informative. I learned so much about my personal vision (including previous problems I’ve had) and it was fascinating to talk with the doctor about everything. You could tell she was passionate about what she does, which made me feel very taken care of. Out of pocket prices were extremely reasonable, too. I plan to go back to Dr. Whittam as my regular optometrist moving forward for sure, and couldn’t recommend her enough! My day was completely turned around by this visit.

Dr. Whittam was really great and made me feel comfortable with the exam, as well as make sure that my opinions were taken into consideration when I let her know that although my prescription had changed, I would like to stay with my current prescription.She did not pressure me to change contacts or buy on the spot.
However, one of the front desk ladies made me feel that I would not find a better deal elsewhere although I had explained that I would like to just go home and check my HSA card, as that would determine whether to buy now or later. She kept asking me when I would come back and seemed a bit upset with me at the end when I asked for my prescription. Overall great eye exam experience but felt a bit uncomfortable at the end.

Always a great experience with Dr Whittam, quick appointment, was attentive to what I wanted, didn't try to upsell me on anything. Her office does a lot of business with my work, so they are on top of our insurance paperwork. It is a Cohen's so the prices for frames are, well, you know Manhattan levels, but the experience and medical services are NOT Manhattan levels and top notch.
