About Dr. Ece Turhal

Dr. Ece Turhal (pronounced AJ Ter-hal) was born and raised in Ankara, Turkey before moving to Pleasanton, California for middle and high school. She received a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from UC Davis before starting optometry school at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Ece has had extensive optometric training at the Veterans Affairs hospitals in Fresno, California and Miami, Florida. She has also received training at Kaiser Point West in Sacramento, California fitting patients in specialty contact lenses and managing severe dry eye cases. She is glaucoma certified and is comfortable managing eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eyes, and diabetic retinopathy. She enjoys helping people of all ages see better with glasses and contacts. Dr. Ece is a member of the American Optometric Association and California Optometric Association. She received a patent during optometry school for an optical inventory management system. Further, she received numerous awards amongst her peers at UC Berkeley including the COVD Binocular Vision Award for her excellence in managing binocular vision conditions in adults and children through vision therapy. Dr. Ece enjoys playing with her beagle, traveling to new places near and far, photography, playing StarCraft, and spending time with friends and family. She looks forward to serving the San Mateo community and enhancing the quality of vision and life of each of her patients.
