I specialize in helping people who struggle with eating disorders or body image concerns make peace with food and their bodies. You may not have an eating disorder but maybe you're body has changed due to illness, menopause, having a baby, or just life. We live in a society that tells us our bodies are only allowed to change in one direction. You're body is not a problem to be fixed and we will work together to help unpack how you came to believe it was. We will also explore how you can continue to nurture and soothe yourself in ways that feel in line with what your needs. If you don't know what those needs are or how to listen to them, I'm here to help. You're body is not the problem. It never was. I received my masters and doctoral degrees from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. I spent much of my early career working in community mental health centers around Colorado. Throughout my education I sought out specialized eating disorder training and supervision. I also decided to become a Certified Body Trust provider to help deepen my roots in connecting with my body and learning to help others do the same. I am a cis, straight, thin white woman and I work to understand the privilege that comes with those identities. I also struggle with an invisible disability that sometimes decides to be no so invisible. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and will address you using the pronouns that fit you. I utilize ACT, harm reduction, body liberation, and social justice approaches in my work. Sometimes the approaches I use can feel radical when we've been used to diet culture and other systems of oppression tell us. My goal in therapy is to help widen your lens to see pass some of the things you have been told, and start connecting with what is true for you. And if this all sounds heavy, don't worry, we will also laugh in our session too. This is hard work but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun too.
