Erin Loughran, PsyD

Psychologist

Professional statement

I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in women's mental health issues related to and including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, body image problems and relationship issues. I use a relational, psychodynamic approach and help clients set realistic goals and make behavioral changes. I treat people struggling with depression, anxiety, various kinds of trauma, marital problems and divorce. I view each client as a unique individual who deserves respect, kindness and support, and I take a very active role in treatment by engaging fully, sharing my thoughts and meeting you where you're at in your struggles. As a former director of the Intensive Outpatient Program at the Renfrew Center of New York, I offer over 15 years experience in the field of eating disorders treatment. I work together with nutritionists, psychiatrists, and physicians as needed to set up a treatment team which supports recovery. Therapy is a unique collaboration which calls for active effort on both our parts. I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of the right match between therapist and client. A trusting therapeutic relationship can allow a client to truly thrive. I would be happy to meet with you for a consultation to discuss your treatment needs.

Dr. Loughran is an incredibly caring and insightful therapist, and I would not be in recovery from my eating disorder if not for her support and expertise. In addressing my issues with food, Dr. Loughran has helped me to develop toolsand skills that have improved my relationships, work habits, and ability to believe and trust in myself. She challenges me to recognize and disrupt disordered thoughts and behaviors while being aware of how difficult and anxiety-inducing this is; I always feel listed to and understood by her. The therapeutic atmosphere Dr. Loughran creates has allowed me to be open and honest with her about my struggles, which has been key to my recovery.
