Getting to know Dr. Erin Loughran

Your relationship with your therapist has the power to heal and transform your life. That's why the therapist you choose to work with is so important. Do you feel safe and respected? Do you feel free to show all parts of yourself? Do you feel appropriately challenged? These are a few questions that are important to ask yourself when choosing a therapist. Witnessing people overcome their barriers and enter into a life of curiosity and vitality is one of my favorite and most meaningful things to be a part of. The energy I get from this collaboration with my patients gets delivered back into each and every session. After over 20 years in private practice in New York City, I continue to be inspired by the transformations I see people make in our work together. My relational style is direct, honest. and collaborative. I'm challenging at times but always with warmth. You will know that I have your back because you can feel it comes from the best of intentions and deep care. I have the skills and the courage to go to the depths of where you need to go, but humor is an essential ingredient in good therapy too! My specialties include disordered eating, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, narcissistic abuse, and trauma. I take a collaborative approach by working closely with nutritionists, psychiatrists, treatment teams whenever needed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My suggestion is to start with meeting for one session, see how it feels for both of us and decide if it's a good fit to work together. If it is, we move forward and set up a regular meeting time, and if not I will help you find someone that's the right match for you. I practice talk therapy and implement a blend of relational and psychodynamic techniques together with Cognitive behavioral skills as needed.

While I do not work in-network with any insurance companies directly, many clients choose to use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for sessions. I can help by giving you a list of questions to ask your insurance company so you know what to expect from them.
