“I really enjoyed my appointment with Dr Aziz. For the first time I’ve felt seen and listened to. Also she provided feedback on what I may be going thru and best of all possible treatment and solution. Only thing I regret is not having done this sooner. ”

Getting to know Dr. Farah Aziz

Dr. Farah Aziz is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult mental health. She was born in Texas and raised in upstate New York in a vibrant South Asian Muslim American household an upbringing that deeply shaped her empathetic, intuitive, and compassionate approach to care. Dr. Aziz earned her Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Vassar College, where she explored the intersections of belief, identity, and human behavior. Her desire to bridge the gap between physical and emotional well-being led her to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown, NY. She completed her general psychiatry residency at Garnet Health Medical Center and went on to complete a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. What drew Dr. Aziz to the field of psychiatry was witnessing the silent struggles with mental health within her family and community issues often left unspoken due to stigma. She was inspired to enter a field that could not only provide treatment but also act as a form of advocacy and connection. For her, psychiatry is not just about diagnoses it’s about understanding the whole person and creating a space for healing through meaningful conversations. Dr. Aziz’s approach is collaborative, person-centered, and rooted in both evidence based practices and compassion. She incorporates therapeutic modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), drawing from each to create a tailored plan that honors her client’s unique needs. Her sessions are grounded in active listening, nonjudgment, and trust-building especially when working with children, teens, and families. Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Aziz enjoys reflective time with family and friends, exploring creative outlets, and continuing her lifelong commitment to learning and listening.
