About Dr. Frances Cuomo
Dr. Cuomo received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. She went on to complete a general surgery internship at Beth Israel Medical Center and an orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. She then completed the Charles S. Neer, II, Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
A prolific author and speaker, Dr. Cuomo has published more than 40 scientific articles and 20 book chapters on the diagnosis and management of shoulder disorders, and she has made over 150 national and international scientific presentations. She currently serves as secretary of the editorial board of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and is a reviewer for many orthopedic journals.
The first female orthopedic surgeon to be elected to the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Association, its first woman president, and the first woman ever to serve as president of any subspecialty society in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Frances Cuomo, MD, joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Montefiore in October 2016 as Chief of Shoulder and Elbow Service.

Friendly staff, older office but well kept. Masks are still required when visiting this office. Dr Cuomo was very nice, she had X-rays done upon my arrival so she had a presumptive diagnosis prior to meeting with me. The only issue I had was she spoke very fast and once or twice I didn’t quite understand her question, she moved on to the next question before I could ask her to repeat the question. Her treatment and diagnosis were on point. I would definitely recommend Dr Cuomo to anyone seeking an orthopedic surgeon.

Knowledgeable, attentive, nice mannered! Dr Cuomo would offer all the options and encourage the non-invasive first, which is always welcome. Trusting, specific! It was an hour wait to see her but it was my first time and there were a lot of people. Other than that, it was great all around.

Its been about 8 years since my last visit to Dr. Cuomo. She is still an ultimate professional, extremely knowledgeable in her field of expertise. She reviews your data and e-rays, outlines in detail the possible options and allows you to comment on your preferences. While surgery might be one of the options, she allows you to pursue other options if you're not ready for surgery at the present time. She schedules follow-up visits until the best outcome is achieved.

This was my second visit to see Dr. Cuomo, my treatment went well and as the previous visit I was very satisfied with her approach. This time I was a bit more aprehensive since it involved an injection on the affected area. However, Dr Cuomo did and excellent job and the injection was pain free. She also clearly explained what to expect in the next 24/48 hours after the treatment.
I will highly recommend Dr.Cuomo to others.
