About Dr. Garrett Kawashima
I am passionate about working with patients to involve them in all aspects of their care. I strongly believe that patients who understand the nature of their injuries and conditions make more informed and better decisions about both surgical and conservative management options. I enjoy spending time getting to know my patients as individuals and not just as a set of labs and x-rays. As each person has individual goals for their return to sports, activities, and lifestyle goals, I tailor my treatment plans to make sure we can mutually decide on the best plan.

I'll start by saying I didn't have a bad visit. The staff was fantastic and prompt. Dr. Kawashima's bedside manner is quick, direct, and flat (respectfully). I've had other orthopedic doctor's take their time explaining my injury to me so that I understand the mechanics of what happened internally to then help me make sense of the presentation of my symptoms and pain. Having that information not only helps me be a better advocate for myself in other medical spaces (PT, Chiro, etc), it also helps alleviate some of the anxiety that comes with a painful injury. They always made the most of those quick 15 minute appointments and it always felt productive.
I didn't get that with Dr. Kawashima, and for some that may not be a big deal, but I feel best about my care when a provider takes the time to help me understand. I don't see myself going back - not because he didn't do his job - mostly because of my personal bedside manner preferences.

Would not recommend booking on zocdoc. I made my appointment weeks in advance. I get called at after 10am the day of my appointment that he was scheduled in to a surgery. I would understand if it was an emergency surgery but this is not a hospital. Most of these surgeries are by appointment. So I asked when would be the next availability for the same time I was booked for and was told next month. Im not waiting that long for pain I have delt with for a month. Ill call off and go to someone else.
