About Dr. George Shida
Dr. George Shida graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Pre-Med Biology. He played football, lettering for three years. Dr. Shida received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1980 from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He began his private practice career in 1981 in the Atlanta area, where he continues to practice. His specialty is family and medical eyecare, pre- and post-operative surgical care, as well as eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Shida is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Georgia Optometric Association, and the Greater Atlanta Optometric Association.
Dr. Shida and his wife Patricia have four children. For leisure, he enjoys golf and spending time with his family.

Every single person in the office was amazing, warm and personable. I loved my experience which is absurdly rare for me because I have issues with anxiety and socializing. All of my questions were perfectly well received, everyone was patient and informative.

The office was a little tricky to find and when I checked in, I had to remind them that I had filled out the forms online. The doctor wore an I’ll-fitting face mask that continuously fell down so I felt uncomfortable being in the confines of the exam room without him being properly masked.

Office had modern equipment and appointment and testing was very efficient. I was impressed that Dr. Shida told his staff that he was going to double check items because I am extremely nearsighted. They have a collocated optical shop that was also great.

The Dr. did a wonderful job during my exam and explaining what glasses I would need. I would highly recommend him and the following has nothing to do with him personally. My issues began once I was handed off to his assistant. First, he originally told me I would only need blue light protection on one pair of glasses but his assistant insisted I needed them on both (that cost me a lot of extra money) I’m guessing she works on commission. Next, she spent about 30 minutes discussing with me how she thought she was “immune” to the Covid-19 virus, telling me how she still goes to bars all the time, doesn’t wear a mask in stores until she gets told to do so, and has “been around tons of people with covid.” This absolutely terrified me as I sat less that 6 feet away from her and live with someone who is at high risk for covid. She went on to say how the virus apparently “doesn’t exist in Walmart, or bars before 9 p.m.” nodding to recent shutdowns in other states. We OBVIOUSLY have VERY different opinions on this matter but I was scared to speak up at the time because I just wanted it to be over and didn’t want to argue. This, to me, was just so unprofessional and disrespectful. You have no idea what people think about topics like that I don’t think it’s something that should be discussed at a DOCTORS office with patients. I will probably be back to see this doctor in the future because I genuinely liked him, but I will just try to request a different assistant.

Wow. Dr. George was legit amazing. I've been to so many we doctors & still had blurry vision. He accepted the challenge & wouldn't give up on finding the perfect contact lenses for me & prescription. He was phenomenal & cared so much!! He also explained things which made me relieved. He was a phenomenal doctor. I will definitely go back.

The good - very fast service, made appointment on a Saturday (which was awesome) and they used top-of-the-line diagnostic instruments. Way more technologically advanced the my last exam.
The bad - didn't want to give me my pupillary distance, which is necessary to buy new glasses online, and told me that while they had a measurement, it wasn't a reliable one (even with all that technology).
The ugly - despite the fact that my far vision was excellent, I was perfectly able to read the smallest print on the near vision test, and I already wear blue-light blocking glasses at the computer screen, they strongly pressured me to buy new glasses through them with a minuscule prescription (.5 / .5) and a blue light blocking coating.

Dr. Shida was amazing! I say this in the best and most appreciative way possible, but I have not spent this long at an optometrist's office in years! The nursing staff was super nice from the get-go. Dr. Shida made the visit feel personal and not super rushed like some typical chain eye doctor branches do. He took the time to understand my day-to-day habits, my concerns, and my feedback through the contact fitting process. I don't remember the last time an eye doctor scheduled a follow up to make sure I was liking the contacts I was trying out let alone let me try out two pairs to make sure I was going to order the right ones when the time came. All around an AMAZING experience! He is just the type of doctor I wish I could have in every field treatment! I never write reviews, but Dr. Shida and his staff are AWESOME!
