I am a psychiatrist who focuses on strength-based approaches to helping youth and adults achieve lives that reflect their underlying values. My role in this process is to help identify barriers that may be found in your brain, your environment, and your unique qualities as an individual. Then we will work together to identify the best, evidence-based approaches to overcoming these challenges, employing a combination of medication and therapy. My practices is focused less on labels and diagnoses but rather forming a comprehensive picture of your own strengths and vulnerabilities.

    Pearly very knowledgable. He blends a nice balance of a pragmatic, logical approach with empathy and compassion. I highly recommend.
    Dr. Van Schalkwyk is empathetic, responsive, and helpful. He listens to me thoughtfully and comes up with solutions and recommendations based on my struggles and symptoms rather then going down a diagnostic checklist to prescribe meds like other psychiatrists I have seen. He explains the medications and their side effects clearly and provides several options so we can make an informed choice about my treatment together. Overall I highly recommend Resilient Minds Psychiatry and have had a great experience with Dr. Van Schalkwyk!
