Getting to know Dr. Gladys Crespo Ramos

Dr. Gladys Crespo-Ramos is a bilingual (Spanish and English) licensed clinical psychologist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, difficulty regulating intense emotions, relationship challenges, and recurring patterns that can feel difficult to change. She also has expertise in supporting individuals coping with chronic health conditions and the emotional impact they can have on everyday life. As a Latina psychologist, Dr. Crespo-Ramos understands that culture, family, and relationships can deeply shape how we experience and respond to emotional challenges. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and practical, integrating evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) while considering each client’s individual experiences, values, and cultural background.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Crespo-Ramos earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Ponce Health Sciences University and completed postdoctoral training focused on diabetes and depression at Yeshiva University/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She currently teaches psychology at the City University of New York (CUNY) and continues her clinical and research work at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her work is informed by an understanding that emotional well-being does not exist separately from culture, family, and community. She particularly enjoys working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds who want therapy to reflect the realities of their relationships, values, and lived experiences rather than assuming there is only one “right” way to communicate, set boundaries, or navigate family relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with Dr. Crespo-Ramos is active, collaborative, and tailored to each client. Early sessions focus on understanding what brings you to therapy, the patterns or challenges affecting your daily life, and what you would like to change. Together, you will identify meaningful goals and practical strategies to work toward them. Her style is warm and supportive while also being direct and goal-oriented. She uses evidence-based strategies while remaining curious about the cultural and family context in which experiences occur. Rather than assuming that every relationship or family dynamic should look a certain way, she works to understand what matters to you and helps you find approaches that are both effective and realistic within your life.
