What should a new client know about working with you?

You might struggle to pay attention or concentrate; make recurrent mistakes; forget events or conversations; misplace things; have trouble finding words; feel less mentally sharp, or think slower. You might wonder what's wrong as you no longer feel like yourself. You could be worried about dementia or wonder if a past TBI/concussion, stroke, chemotherapy, or medical condition like multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease could have impacted your mental ability. A psychological or neuropsychological evaluation could help you get the insight and clarity you crave. I take a holistic approach to virtual testing and assessment. I consider culture and background to understand cognitive-emotional patterns, brain aging, and brain resilience to disease and trauma. I will empower you with data on your brain health and strengths and share tips so you improve cognitive weaknesses or decline. Know that I am here to support YOU! It’s my priority to make you feel at ease. It can feel scary to sit for an assessment. Feeling anxious, unsettled, or nervous about the process is normal. Testing can sometimes feel like a cold process. I promise, there’s nothing to be afraid of. It is not like school—there are no right or wrong answers; it is not a pass-or-fail situation. Instead, it’s a way to gain a comprehensive understanding of what you’re going through. I will meet YOU genuinely interested in where you’ve been and what’s happening. You will experience a YOU-centered, judgment-free space. I hope my easygoing and friendly nature makes you comfortable. When you work with me, you won’t experience a cold approach at the expense of a personal connection—instead, warmth and kindness. I will work with you to understand your cognitive strengths and give tips to improve any cognitive weaknesses or declines. Whatever your diagnosis, I want to empower you with information so you can confidently understand your brain health and plan for the future.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a neuropsychologist, I am passionate about conducting psychological and neuropsychological evaluations. I believe in the value of data-driven treatments. Knowledge is power and could better guide your plan for the future. You could get a comprehensive understanding of what you're going through. Neuropsychological assessment is to gather information about your brain functioning such as your attention, concentration, language skills, visuospatial skills, memory, and complex thinking. I will spend the first hour or so talking with you about your symptoms, medical history, psychological history, educational history, family history, etc., to get a good sense of what your brain has been through in your life and what I might expect during the evaluation. Then I will ask you to answer questions, draw things, remember things, etc., so that I can assess how your brain functions in different ways. You may have any breaks you need. I will not be able to give you the results immediately because I need time to complete calculations and analyses of your performance. I will schedule an appointment to explain the results to you in about two weeks. This appointment lasts about a half hour and you may bring anyone you wish to hear the results. This evaluation is completely voluntary and you can leave at any time. However, please know that if you leave prematurely I might not have all the information that is required to answer your questions regarding your diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
