“Dr. Sypher and his team helped me navigate my (what felt like crippling) ADHD and the related challenges of self-worth. I left my sessions feeling affirmed and found significant value in our time working through concrete action steps to alleviate my symptoms and stressors. I was given the space to talk about my week, but was gently redirected to connect my experiences to how they related to my therapeutic goals. I’m “graduating” therapy for the time being with a renewed sense of hope, demonstrated successes, and skills that I can use throughout my life. I highly recommend Dr Sypher! ”

Getting to know Dr. Isaiah Sypher

**Please note that I am not currently taking on new patients; all referrals will be directed to my exceptional postdoctoral clinicians, Dr. Marla Moss- Rainey and Dr. Tatianna Johnson** Psychological distress often arises when there is misalignment between the person we are in the moment and the person we'd like to be. Whether it's internal obstacles such as anxiety, addiction, depression, ADHD, or unresolved trauma, or external obstacles such as unhealthy relationships, work demands, or various systems of oppression and injustice, many factors can prevent us from identifying and moving towards our values. My primary goal as your therapist is to help you improve your mental wellbeing, connect with your values and ideals, and feel empowered to live a fuller, richer, and more meaningful life. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and completed my internship at Yale University, experiences that have deeply informed my approach to therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens by three generations of phenomenal women. I received my BA in Psychology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. I completed my doctoral internship at the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, where I am currently Voluntary Clinical Faculty. I have experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, gender, and class identities across with a spectrum of presenting concerns. As a Black, queer, first-generation college graduate, I have a keen understanding for how various forms of power and privilege inform our everyday lives and psychological wellbeing. Additionally, I have my own lived experience of therapy and healing, and thus I have a deep appreciation for how big an undertaking the process of change can be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For one, I am a firm believer that alignment in the therapeutic relationship itself can be a source of healing and growth. Thus, no matter what the content of our sessions, I take great care to build a strong supportive therapeutic alliance with warmth, authenticity, compassion, and humor. I want to know who you are and what is important to you, so that the goal is not simply to decrease distress but to increase life satisfaction. Second, I integrate techniques from various evidence-based therapies in a way that allows me to be flexible, creative, and responsive to your unique needs. The types of therapy I have experience with include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

Isaiah is excellent and highly professional. I had a great experience working with him and would highly recommend him to anyone.
Isiah is an amazing therapist, who is supportive but holds you accountable. I am a gay man, and he is the first therapist I feel comfortable being completely honest with
My visiits always go good . Access is easy and consistent as well if I am running behind. Therapy is meant to challenghe your way of thinking. I feel like that is real for me.

Isaiah is wonderful! I've had a lot of therapists over the years, and he is probably the best of them all. He's very easy to talk to, understanding, and insightful, and he makes me laugh. Super smart! I initially started seeing him for help with depression, anxiety, alcohol abuse, and PTSD -- and then I received an outside diagnosis of ADHD. Not only did this discovery make sense of my entire life -- Isaiah happened to be an expert in ADHD and has a lot of helpful tools and skills we are implementing to improve my executive functioning. I am also overcoming a physical disability that Isaiah has helped helped me understand and cope with how micro aggressions can get me down. Overall I feel very valued, cared for, and understood by him, and I would recommend him to anyone on a wellness path.
Dr. Sypher has been extremely helpful in our ongoing sessions. He is welcoming, warm and demonstrates a keen understanding of my issues relating to anxiety, attention deficit and executive function. He’s provided helpful insights, tools and resources that have been instrumental to my treatment.
Isaiah is incredibly thoughtful and conscientious. He has helped me see different perspectives and gently help me process those new insights. I am grateful for his guidance on my journey.
Isiah is a fantastic therapist. He is a great listener, compassionate in his approach and has an extraordinary way of helping me look inward to examine and resolve deeply rooted issues that affect my mental health. I have seen several therapists in my life and I can truly recommend Isaiah for anyone who is seeking a caring and effective therapist.
I have been seeing Isaiah Sypher for over a year, and have found him to be extremely insightful, supportive and helpful. I would highly recommend him as a therapist.
I would recommend him to anyone struggling with mental health or not. He always made me feel comfortable and at ease talking to him and gave his honest opinions and feedback. He did a lot for me as well to help me with a legal situation which i will be forever grateful for. He went above and beyond my expectations and was the best therapist I’ve had.
Dr. Sypher is an awesome therapist. I felt very comfortable talking to him to the fact that I have shared things that I have never felt comfortable talking about. He is the only person that I have confided in. I wish we could’ve continued.
My experience with Dr.Sypher was the best. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He is professional, courteous, and qualified. An absolute blessing for me and my family.
