Dr. Jacob Nacheman, PhD

Psychologist
160 W End Ave, 1N, New York, NY
My focus includes self-concept & identity development, acceptance, individuation, and relational growth. I have a background in human development across the lifespan (cognitive, social, and emotional), and am experienced in working with children/adolescents, college students, and adults. As a trauma informed, queer affirming, client-centered therapist, I recognize how societal expectations, role rigidity, and trauma can impact well-being, and I prioritize the intersectionality of identities, pluralistic awareness, and multicultural humility. I'm an integrative psychodynamic psychotherapist with a relational foundation, and my approach often blends mindfulness, acceptance, attachment, and cognitive principles where indicated. I work with a lot of neurodivergent people and emerging/young adults; queer folks, and straight folks. I'm dedicated to supporting clients in developing their relationships, self-love, patience, resilience, transitions, and adaptability. If you are new to therapy, looking for a change of pace, or feel that your previous experiences lacked a sense of connection, acceptance, and collaborative direction, let's have a brief chat to see if working together will be a good fit. ** Licensed in NY, NJ, & PA

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with clients to identify how past experiences, injuries, and relational patterns play into daily struggles and enduring anxiety/depression. We illuminate how certain defenses against the self, others, and the world (which may have once been useful coping/survival mechanisms) may no longer be efficient, and rather generate blockades against self-actualization and relational growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

BS Brain/Cognitive Sciences, Minors Psychology & Philosophy; MS Education & Human Development; MA & PhD Clinical Psychology, theses in Therapeutic Alliance and Therapeutic Mentorship Modalities. Thus, I can conceptualize through neurological, developmental, relational, cultural, & diagnostic lenses.
