Psychologist
NY
Welcome! My name is Dr. Jamal Waire, and I provide individual therapy to adults and teens. I also provide couples and family therapy, and I value working with individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life. My clinical work is rooted in cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches, with the aim of tailoring treatment to fit your specific needs. I am deeply committed to providing evidence-based care that honors our shared humanity—focusing not only on symptoms, but on what can be learned from the pain we experience and how growth can emerge from it. I've trained in a variety of settings including school-based clinics, college counseling centers, and private practice. I have dedicated much of my training to developing expertise in treating anxiety and OCD-related concerns, and I am an active member of the International OCD Foundation. Outside of work, I enjoy being active and spending time outdoors with my family and our dog, Harper.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in treating a wide range of concerns, including anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, perfectionism, chronic stress, and relationship distress. I have extensive training in evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ERP, and ACT. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, caught in cycles of overthinking, or seeking greater balance in your life, I offer individualized treatment to help build resilience and self-compassion during life’s most challenging moments. I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan, including adolescents, young adults, and adults. I have extensive experience supporting individuals in high-stress and demanding professions who are seeking relief from burnout, uncertainty about their career paths, and challenges with sustaining productivity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Treatment begins with a thorough assessment of your presenting concerns, personal history, and prior experiences with therapy. We will spend time reviewing available treatment options and work collaboratively to establish clear therapy goals and a structured, actionable plan that feels right for you. While sessions often begin on a weekly basis, my goal is to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to apply what you learn outside of therapy and gradually reduce session frequency. All changes in treatment are guided by your needs, preferences, and ongoing feedback. Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length, unless we determine that extended sessions would be clinically beneficial. Longer sessions are most commonly used for exposure-based therapy.
