About Dr. James Maisel
Dr. Maisel, founder of the Retina Group of New York, is a Board Certified ophthalmologist who completed the Dyson fellowship in Vitreous and Retinal surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He has received a Special Congressional Award for his work in diabetic retinopathy and the Banko Gift of Sight Award. He also was named the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Humanitarian of the year.
He has served as a Corporate Advisory Board member for the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Medical Advisory Board. He was also a member of the AAO Instrument and Device and Low Vision Committees and has received research grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the National Institute of Health. Dr. Maisel represented the National Society to Prevent Blindness at the ANSI Z-80 committee where he helped establish many ophthalmic industry standards. He served as an editor of EyeCare Technology Magazine and co-editor of Diabetes Technology Magazine. He also authored numerous professional journal articles, and lectures nationally on retina, medical informatics and practice management topics. In addition, he has been a clinical investigator, consultant, educator, and advisory board member for Pfizer, Novartis, Genentech, Alimera, Regeneron and Allergan, educating retinal specialists across the US.

I was very pleased with the treatment I received for my detached retina. Dr Maisel explained the procedure and then took cate of my issue. He was very professional and answered all of my questions at the time of my initial treatment and follow up.
Attime of my follow up to ensure my retina was healing and reattached, D Maisel took the time to show me images of my retina and how it was improved.
I had come with bios of Dr in my area for a 3 month follow up. Dr Maisel helped recommend an excellent eye specialist in Richmond, VA. I was an unusual case since I was visiting my family on Long Island when my retina detached. Thank goodness Dr M was able to take me in within 5 minutes after I arrived. I had to fill out paperwork.
I would highly recommend Dr M for any serious eye treatments. The staff was great too!
