Getting to know Dr. James McTague

Dr. James McTague is married with three grown children. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over thirty years of experience working with children, teens, adults, and seniors. He has served in medical, physical rehabilitation, substance abuse rehabilitation, and psychiatric facilities across rural, suburban, and inner-city settings. James’s expertise has grown from practical experience and a deep interest in helping families and individuals overcome life’s roadblocks, disappointments, tragedies, and traumas over the past twenty-five years. As one of ten children, he experienced firsthand the stress, struggles, and loss that a large family with limited means can face. James earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University; and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University (formerly the Illinois School of Professional Psychology). He completed his internship at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center. His dissertation focused on collaborative relationships between behavioral health providers and medicine. James trained in Family Therapy at The Family Institute at Northwestern University and gained additional specialty training in Behavioral Medicine, Family Therapy, and Christian Counseling. He often consults with physicians, ministers, attorneys, schools, community leaders, and corporate managers. He has provided training for medical and psychology interns and residents, taught as an adjunct instructor at the college level, and delivered lectures and workshops to community and children’s groups. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the National Register of Health Service Providers. Through a lifetime of experiences and training, Dr. McTague understands the personal courage and anguish individuals and families endure in their struggles with life transitions.
