What should a new client know about working with you?

**At this time I can only offer consultation and brief psychotherapy.** This would involve 1-3 sessions for to help with diagnostic clarification, identifying treatment goals, making treatment recommendations, and finding a longer-term provider. I am board certified in clinical health psychology and have worked with people with cancer in a healthcare setting for the last 9 years. This has allowed me to develop a unique understanding of the challenges facing those with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as the challenges facing those working in a healthcare setting. I apply science-based psychotherapy techniques flexibly, knowing there is no 'one size fits all' with therapy. I combine warmth, compassion, irreverence, and humor to provide a comfortable space to explore challenging topics. I have training in CBT, ACT, and DBT interventions. I am certified in trauma-informed mindfulness facilitation and often integrate mindfulness concepts as part of my practice.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In an initial session, I gather a lot of information so I can better understand how to focus our work together so it this session may feel a bit more 'medical' than follow up sessions. Often, details about things that may not seem relevant (like how you're sleeping or what your family life was like growing up) can be helpful for me in understanding you in the 'bigger picture' of your life. I am happy to adapt to what works best for you - more structured, less structured - there is never a need to come prepared with an agenda for the day, but if you prefer that, that's okay too. I hope to use our time together to meet you exactly where you are, today. I will at times suggest ideas for work outside of therapy to better integrate what we discuss in session and this is always in collaboration with you. It is always an invitation and not a requirement.
