Hello! I'm Dr. Jennifer McManus, and there's one thing I know for sure: all women deserve their own love and compassion. I specialize in helping women find relief from stress, anxiety, burnout, and deep emotional pain so they can feel centered and confident in their ability to handle life's challenges. You can have a highly credentialed, licensed psychologist for your therapist who genuinely cares, too. I am passionate about helping women feel like themselves again so they can live their lives to the fullest. I light up when my clients feel peaceful with renewed hope for the future. And, oh, those ripple effects. When you schedule a therapy session with me, you will start to see that finding balance in your life and liking yourself again are entirely possible. What should a new client know about working with you?

My integrative style of psychotherapy is based on science with a heavy emphasis on self-compassion. I incorporate person-centered, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapy approaches. More specifically, I treat my clients with unconditional positive regard to create a safe and non-judgmental space to fully process the concerns that bring them to therapy with me. Many people find that this type of support helps them to feel understood, that their feelings matter, and that they are not alone in their emotional pain and struggles. I recognize that we all have a past that may influence how we interact in the world today. Through therapy, clients can gain insight into how unaddressed past pains may be affecting their current quality of life and important relationships. Once my clients feel validated and begin increasing their self-awareness into the “why” of certain patterns in their lives, I help my clients with strategies that bring them closer to the lives they truly want to lead. We do this by looking at the connection of our thoughts to our feelings and actions. This aspect of therapy is not as basic as replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts. That would be unrealistic because life has its ups and downs. We can, however, explore thoughts that are associated with painful emotions such as anxiety and reframe them to be more helpful and kind. I support my clients in reaching their goals for therapy by continuously building a connection, leading to deeper trust. I have profound compassion for the struggles my clients are experiencing. I draw upon my expertise in clinical psychology to provide support in the interest of alleviating that suffering. I have great respect for my client's rights to privacy and confidentiality. As such, I do not participate in requesting that my clients give public online reviews of my professional services. That's the only reason why you don't see patient submitted reviews about me on this directory.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The practice operates on an exclusively self-pay basis and does not accept health insurance. A brief complimentary consultation call will be conducted within 24 hours of an appointment request from a new client. The complimentary consultation will be completed before committing to an appointment with a new client. Please only book with the understanding of the self-pay (out-of-network) and complimentary consultation policies of this in demand psychotherapy practice. The practice may be considered an out-of-network provider for those who wish to seek reimbursement directly from their health insurance company or other flexible healthcare benefits. The practice will supply a superbill receipt following payment of services for those who wish to explore such options. The first full appointment after the complimentary consultation is considered a therapy intake assessment and it tends to feel more like the client is being interviewed than the more collaborative nature that future therapy sessions will have. The therapy intake assessment appointment allows both the psychologist and the client to gain clarity on the issues the client wishes to address through anxiety therapy and to establish any mental health diagnoses. Getting precise upfront with concerns to explore in therapy and any diagnoses informs the plan for your anxiety therapy. This is when we chart a course for change. Together you and I will work to reduce the impact of stress, anxiety, or burnout on your quality of life. You and I will meet once per week for approximately 45 minutes to an hour for at least 6-8 weeks to learn how to manage stress, anxiety, or burnout more effectively. I like to offer some initial strategies that could bring you some beginning relief from the struggles you are experiencing. As we build upon the therapeutic relationship, we can then go deeper and explore underlying causes contributing to the difficulty with stress, anxiety, burnout, or other emotional pains.
