Getting to know Dr. Jessica Bonatakis

Dr. Bonatakis began her PCIT journey in 2009 upon learning about the practice at a clinical practicum. She was drawn to PCIT’s active engagement of caregivers through supportive, in vivo coaching that is not seen in other treatment models. Dr. Bonatakis engaged in extensive self-learning to implement PCIT and then obtained formal training in 2011 with Elizabeth Brestan-Knight, Ph.D., PCIT International Global Trainer at Auburn University. Dr. Bonatakis completed her PCIT Therapist and Within Agency Trainer requirements with Dr. Brestan-Knight and has completed almost all requirements for Regional Trainer through training and mentorship from Global Trainers Drs. Wolgang Briegel and Amy Herschell as well as Regional Trainer Dr. Kristin Schaffner. Dr. Bonatakis is a femme being in white, cisgender, bisexual, ambiamorous human form who is passionate about serving LGBTQ+ families as well as families with diverse relationship structures. She is a survivor of complex trauma who lives with neurodivergences of Complex PTSD, dissociation, dyscalculia, and various manifestations of anxiety as well as other invisible disabilities. Her doctoral training in Socially Responsible Practice influences her values-driven and anti-oppressive approach to PCIT, and her lived experience and continuing education inform her expertise in serving children and families who have experienced trauma. When she’s not working, you can find her spending time with her partner, loving on her two cats, practicing Yoga and Reiki, roller skating, enjoying forms of nature, or nose deep in a book. Dr. Bonatakis is a Within Agency Trainer, certified by PCIT International Dr. Bonatakis has graduated 100+ families with PCIT
