Dr. Jill Friedman Guggenheim, PhD

Psychologist
NJ
I am a licensed Clinical and Health Psychologist with a Ph.D. from Drexel University, where I completed advanced training in evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy. My work is grounded in the understanding that psychological well-being is deeply connected to physical health, life experiences, and the social contexts in which we live. I specialize in helping individuals navigate stress, health-related concerns, anxiety, mood difficulties, life transitions, and the emotional impact of medical or reproductive challenges. In my practice, I take a collaborative, compassionate approach, integrating empirically supported treatments such as cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based strategies while remaining attuned to each person’s unique story, values, and goals. I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical—offering a safe space for reflection while also equipping clients with tools they can use in their everyday lives. In addition to my clinical work, I am passionate about teaching psychology and translating research into real-world understanding, empowering people to make meaningful and sustainable changes in their mental and emotional health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and practical. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel safe talking openly about what’s been weighing on you. Sessions often include both reflection and active skill-building, and we’ll work together to identify patterns, clarify goals, and develop strategies that fit your life. Therapy is not about “fixing” you, but about understanding what you’re experiencing and helping you move forward in a way that feels manageable and meaningful.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions typically last about 45–50 minutes and follow a collaborative format. We may begin by checking in on how things have been since our last meeting and identifying what feels most important to focus on that day. Depending on your goals, sessions may involve talk therapy, skill-building, cognitive or mindfulness-based exercises, or problem-solving around current stressors. Progress is reviewed regularly, and treatment is adjusted as needed to ensure the work remains helpful and aligned with your goals.
