Getting to know Dr. John Anderson

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, sessions starting March 23 will be conducted via a HIPAA-compliant tele-therapy platform; in-person sessions will resume once the health and safety concerns related to the Coronavirus subside. Are you feeling sad or depressed and wondering if you will ever be happy again? Do you experience worry and anxiety that interfere with your ability to live a relaxed and productive life? Do you get so angry that it negatively impacts your relationships? Are you feeling hopeless about ever losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle? Do the overwhelming demands of work cause you so much stress that other areas of your life suffer? These are some of the questions clients bring to me when they are experiencing significant distress in their lives. As a licensed clinical psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology and over 15 years of experience, I provide psychotherapy for clients facing a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, anger, health-related problems, stress management, work-life balance, and life transition challenges. I completed my internship in Clinical Psychology at Henry Ford Health System. I believe therapy is a collaborative experience in which we work together as a team to set agenda items, priorities, and goals. My approach will be straightforward and practical because I believe a problem-focused, solution-oriented perspective best enables improvement to take place as quickly as possible. Together, we will work to better understand how your thoughts influence your emotions, which in turn may impact your behavior in unproductive ways. We will also develop alternative ways of thinking, feeling, and acting to help you cope more effectively with the problems in your life.

kind, excellent, incisive.

He was fine at first, but his method of inquisition was tiresome. It honestly just felt like he would ask, "How does that make you feel", about 100 times per sessions. It made me feel that he was just phoning it in.
Totally comfortable experience with ample time to outline desired problems to address, provide context and receive feedback on how we could proceed. Highly recommended.

I have been seeing Dr. Anderson for a year and a half now. During that time he has helped guide me through a variety of issues - a painful break up with my partner, losing weight, anxiety at work. He is very insightful and offers practical tips for navigating life's challenges. He's compassionate, without letting you wallow too much in pain or grief. Instead he is always asking questions to help you move forward and live a richer life.

Highly professional and solution oriented therapist. His approach is grounded in proven techniques and patient led self-insight. Highly recommended

Super informative. I felt my meeting with Dr. Anderson was efficient in that we were able to lay out specific goals by the end of my first visit, which was what I had asked him to assist with beforehand. He is calm and clear in his communication which helped me logically connect the dots in my brain as to what next steps made the most sense for me. Absolutely would recommend.
My appointment started right on time. He knew a lot about my specific condition, outlined a detailed plan for treatment and provided plenty of opportunities for me to ask questions and seek clarity. Looking forward to my next appointment!
My first section with Dr. Anderson was pretty good. He opened up the session with his approach towards therapy, "practical and solution oriented". After a long hour of talking, he summed up my situation very well, and gave me next step. He has shown great control of the whole process, making me feel at ease. I appreciate his ability to be caring but in a very rational way, and also to put pieces together in a very organizational way. But I do feel having hard time to expose emotion when your doctor is more on the rational side instead of the empathy side.
John is simply the best. He wants to help you help yourself, and ultimately fix/mitigate the problem. This is what we all should want both in physical medicine and in psychological therapy.

Dr. Anderson is a great doctor. He has always accomodated me and he held me accountable without judgment. He is flexible and has provided insight I'm not able to see on my own. I strongly recommend him.
