I agree with all these other reviews and really wish I looked at them before I came. There was only him in the office, it was terribly cluttered and messy, very unprofessional and disorganized. Just you and the doctor alone in what feels like a hoarders den. I (and many other patients) were very uncomfortable.
Dr. Shapiro conducted a meticulously thorough and efficient examination and explained his findings clearly and with care. He has diagnosed a problem and prescribed a regiment of treatment in which i have complete confidence based on earlier experience with him.

Office space was dirty and cluttered. Wrappers and cotton swaps on the ground. Papers everywhere to the point where you couldn’t see the countertop at reception. Office was a mess. He was very quirky and unprofessional with some of his conversation. At times, I honestly felt like I unsafe and uncomfortable. Can’t believe this man has a license and is associated with Langone.

Dr. Shapiro is meticulously thorough in conducting an examination and in prescribing any needed testing. He is obviously knowledgeable and up-to-date in his specialty but is careful to explain matters to a patient in terms that a layperson can understand. His manner inspires and deserves trust and confidence.

The office was absolutely filthy and pitch black, and there was no receptionist present to let me in or show me to the office for my exam. When I finally found Doctor Shapiro, his office was extremely disorganized and dirty which in my opinion is very unprofessional for a doctor's office. Terrible experience all around - especially for my first eye exam ever!
I cannot say enough bad things about my experience at this appointment. First off, Dr. Shapiro didn't even come out and introduce himself. He yelled to me from his office down the hall while I sat in the waiting room. There isn't any staff so you are in this large office alone with this man. I felt extremely uncomfortable! The office was filthy! There was garbage on the floor and the exam room was far from sterile. In fact, the doctor didn't wear gloves while touching my eyes and face. Nor did he wash his hands prior to examination. I felt like I was in a clinic in an impoverished neighborhood, not the Upper East Side! And I haven't even mentioned how annoyed he was to assist me with the eye exam for the DMV. Let's just say his bedside manner is extremely cold and I will never being going back to Dr. Shapiro!

Dr. Shapiro is exceptionally thorough and meticulous both in conducting an eye examination and in explaining the results. He orders the necessary testing and makes efficient arrangements for it if there is any part of the exam that he cannot conduct in his office. He is plainly on top of his field, and very savvy. I have had other ophthalmologists in various cities over the years and there's no doubt in my mind that Dr. Shapiro is a superior performer in every regard.

I had a good visit to Dr Shapiro's office. The wait-time was 10 minutes whereby I had to re-do the forms but it was no biggie. The doctor took a good deal of time to test my eyes, listen to me and my history and made his recommendations. It was a satisfactory visit and would recommend.

I'm so glad that I found Dr. Shapiro on ZocDoc. I got a next day appointment and he saw me even before my scheduled appointment time. His exam was thorough and his diagnosis and explanation of my treatment options were easy to understand. I trusted his professional opinion because he encouraged me to try the cheapest and least invasive treatment option before considering something more costly and complicated. Furthermore, he has a warm, friendly and reassuring bedside manner. If my condition persists, I will definitely make an appointment with him again as he appears to be an excellent clinician and diagnostician.
