Dr. Julia Lynford, PsyD

Psychologist
NY
As a New York state licensed psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s degree from Long Island University, Greenvale, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Brown University, my primary objective is to help my patients find the growth and healing necessary to reach their goals. While I have been trained extensively in multiple therapeutic modalities, I primarily work using a psychodynamic approach, which entails gaining insight into thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by exploring the past, present, and any associations that come to mind. I help my patients make connections and gain insight in order to form new patterns and understanding, leading to a reduction in symptoms and improved mental health.

Getting to know Dr. Julia Lynford

What should a new client know about working with you?

There are many types of treatments that fall under the umbrella of "psychodynamic." The one that I tend to use most frequently is attachment-based. This means that I will work to establish a relationship with my patient that feels secure and safe to explore emotions, difficulties, and other relationships. Once this secure relationship is formed, the exploration and work to address hardship, symptoms, or suffering can be undertaken collaboratively to bring about relief.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After booking a session, I will reach out via email or phone to confirm the meeting, in addition to sending basic consent and demographic forms to complete. Once forms are completed, I will send a link to my virtual meeting-space for the session. During the first session, patients can expect and open-ended discussion about what brought them to therapy, what they would like help with, and how therapy would proceed. As I am an out-of-network provider, I provide monthly statements for insurance reimbursement for patients to submit to their insurance companies.
