“Dr. Kari is phenomenal! I have spent the better part of 50 years in both psychological and spiritual talk therapy, rehashing old stories. Certainly, there was growth, and it was all helpful on some level. But working with Dr. Kari has been wonderfully life changing in a very short period of time. Her unique and integrated approach — though sometimes surprising — has served to reintroduce me to my wholeness and power. Under her care, delivered with extensive knowledge and deep love and wisdom, I have experienced real and transformative healing. Dr. Kari Taylor receives my deepest gratitude and my highest recommendation! ”

Getting to know Dr. Kari Taylor-Evans

Dr. Taylor-Evans has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She is a holistic practitioner who integrates mind-body-spirit interventions to stimulate organic healing with adults. She completed her doctoral training at the State University of New York, Albany, earning a PhD in Counseling Psychology. She has worked in multiple settings, including the Veterans Administration, private medical centers, and college counseling centers. She specializes in helping clients reduce anxiety, anger, depression, and relationship issues. She works with clients seeking more peace, clarity, freedom, joy, abundance, health, and harmonious relationships. She supports clients in living their highest potentials by teaching tools that help them connect to their own wisdom and inner knowing. When clients connect to this truth, it guides the transformational process and the gifts that unfold on their life journey. She combines the science of psychology with intuition and the laws of the universe. She is trained in Somatic Experiencing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotional Intelligence, Soul Embodiment, and other trauma-treatment interventions. She loves waterfalls, crystals, bubbling brooks, chocolate, hiking, yoga, collaging, and engaging in ceremonies that promote her own development and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work as a holistic psychologist blending traditional psychotherapy techniques (e.g., Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems) with that of universal and spiritual laws (e.g., attraction, inspired action, polarity, vibration, divine oneness, and gestation). I am trained in multiple scientific modalities to support you in transforming fear, anxiety, anger, depression, stuckness, lack of clarity, and/or behaviors that are no longer serving you. I believe the strongest gift I can offer you is my vibration and working with the energy of love. I see it as my job to hold you in the highest light and see you as your best possible self even when you can not see that version. I aim my interventions to help this perspective become your reality. I am a firm believer that things happen “for you” and “not to you.” Depending on what we have gone through, this can be a challenge to keep in mind. What I have found is that when we shift our focus from “victim mentality” to “I AM the creator of my reality” my clients feel better and more empowered to make the changes they need to in their life. As a scientist, I track outcomes to see if what we are doing is working. I will check in at each meeting related to your progress and what worked or did not work. I am not a good fit if you are wanting traditional supportive talk psychotherapy. I have been told I am revolutionary in my style. I will support you if you are in the energy that you are wanting more of in your life. However, if you are in a place you are not wanting more of, I will interrupt you and the stories your are telling yourself. I see it as my job to shift your habits related to suffering, pain, stuckness etc so that you can experience a new way living.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

1st session, we will discuss what changes you are wanting to experience in your life; What you desire from our work together, and how your life will look when you receive what you are wanting. I conduct a comprehensive psychosocial and DSM V assessment Together, we will discuss your diagnosis, so you will be clear what is documented for billing purposes. My 1st priority is to to connect you to your own "inner knowing" system. From my experience, when you connect to your inner essence of truth it is this part that actually guides the healing process and our work together. There are many tools to help you access this version of yourself and we may explore in our sessions such as breath work, guided meditation and imagery, movement, writing, music, and/or artwork. The key is to access other aspects of self other than the logical brain. Sessions will also focus on what you are desiring to create in your life. What does your life look like when you let go of your suffering and pain? I teach clients how to transform old ways of thinking and feeling and use that energy to harness and experience the life they are wanting. The key principal here is where your attention goes is what you grow. Often we are focused on getting rid of what we don't want accidentally creating more of what we are not wanting in our life. I support you in mastering your thought process to be in alignment of more of what your are wanting to experience. For those of you who experience feeling hijacked by your emotional or pain body, we will explore what triggers you and how this is happening for you. I often use DBT to support your relationship with emotions. When trauma energy interferes in the present, I use SE to support the transformation of stuck trauma energy into the body to support the life you desire. We will orient to support and through ease and grace reprogram old trauma patterns.

I have a billing and scheduling company that supports me in this process. I am able to accept Aetna insurance for clients whose current address is either from North Carolina or New York states. If you live in NC, NY or FL and do not have Aetna insurance payment would be through private pay (i.e, $250 for intake and $222 for individual therapy session). I do not have a sliding scale. I am willing to fill out paper work as an out of network provider for you to submit to your insurance. I would expect you to call your insurance company to get the details of what they need from me for you to receive out of network benefits. Before our first session, I will ask for you to complete some forms. One of these will be a way for me to receive payment for copays and/or private pay. I prefer to do this through an automated system setting up a credit card/debit card for payment at the time of service. It is important before you schedule with me on this platform that you are sure we are a good match and the time and date work out. I am grateful for zocdoc as a platform for me to connect with those who are aligned to the services I provide. I am excited about this when we are a good match. However, if you are ambivalent or have a tendency to no show I ask that you not book with me. I am direct and unconventional in my approach. Therefore, I expect my clients to not need long term therapy. I have clients who paid full fee who had expedited results. They took advantage of the energy exchange to support them learning the tools to live the life they desire without being reliant on a therapist. This brings me joy!

Kari was very knowledgeable, personable, caring, and skilled. She was unique in bringing together a multitude of different skills and more effective in getting me where I wanted to be in less time than I thought possible. She opened up new possibilities through shifts and approaches that were new to me from prior experiences and I am truly grateful I found her and got to work with her!
I don't know how I would have gotten through the past two years without Kari. She showed me the value of patience, non judgment and self compassion, which has been incredibly liberating. She taught me me use those tools to come to conclusions and solutions that made sense for me rather than trying to solve my problems for me. I am endlessly thankful for what she has given me.
Kari is authentically invested in her patients. The enthusastic level of positivity & acceptance she gives to me in particular is charmingly disarming, and lends further credence to her approach, which for me is tailored as a balance between the clinical (mostly DBT) & the spiritual (meditation & metaphysics). She is generally lighthearted, yet will become gently serious if necessary. After being very forthcoming with my personal life, I've not once felt judged or unwillingly coaxed in a direction that's too uncomfortable. She has been a good ally this year, and more than helped in my ongoing journey towards better mental health and overall wellness.
Dr. Kari Taylor Evans is an insightful, intelligent and caring psychologist. She was a tremendous support in helping me transition into a new chapter in my life involving moving to a new state, relationship issues and more spirituality. She is truly an amazingly kind person and a wonderful psychologist.
Kari is an excellent and well-qualified therapist. She helped me through a difficult period with skill and compassion. I highly recommend Kari.
Dr. Taylor was very helpful. She helped me to see my strengths. I felt safe with her pretty fast (which is unusual.) She helped me to bring my spiritual practice into my everyday life. I looked forward to talking to her. I learned some powerful tools in DBT. Her outlook on life is empowering and fun! Would recommend an intro call to see if there's a fit. Working with her put me on the fast track to mastery!
Kari has changed my life in ways more than 1. Her passion for this field, her incredibly strong and powerful work ethic, and her compassion that she brings to every single one of our sessions are simply a mere representation of who she is at the core. I hope everyone can find a therapist like Kari and I can only hope that when I enter the sports therapy field, I’ll be half as talented as she is.
Kari uses intuition, instinct, and extensive knowledge of psychology in her approach to a new client. She perceived that I was stuck in a loop of “seek a listening ear, vent, feel vindicated, then repeat process.” When I was ready to recognize the futility of this ‘trap,’ she revealed it to me. That was truly a life-changing moment for me.
Kari is wonderful! She is caring, compassionate and thoughtful. I used to dread therapy before working with her. I love her perspective on life and all of her suggestions. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to work on how the talk to themselves.
