“Dr. Rennhofer is amazing. I have always had troubles with my anxiety, depression, and ADD. She also has helped me with few other existing problems. My work, friends and family have all seen changes in me since I started seeing her. I have talked to lots of therapist but she is by far the best I have seen. I am now 42 and I wish I had seen her when I was younger otherwise I would not have the confidence problems I have. Definitely do a consultation with her and you will see what I’m talking about. -Charles”

Getting to know Dr. Karla Rennhofer

Hello! I work with people who have a wide variety of conditions stemming from relational and environmental stress. I believe we often rely on past coping skills that are no longer functional, blocking the path to healing. Every symptom once served a purpose, and change can occur by examining how and why these symptoms developed. I have a direct, non-judgmental, and caring style, intermingled with humor. I work hard to view each person through the lens of their own experience by thoroughly interviewing you about your past. I examine how it shaped you, your emotions, thoughts, and interactions. I welcome clients of different ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, nationalities, and abilities and am eager to learn about areas I'm less familiar with. Clients I’ve worked well with often experience relational problems, work stress, life transitions, low self-esteem, emotional abuse/neglect, childhood trauma, work/secondary trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-sabotaging behaviors. My approach primarily incorporates interpersonal and family system techniques, but I also utilize EMDR, CBT, Gestalt, Attachment, and Trauma-based therapies. I work with clients who enjoy homework and structure, as well as those who prefer a more fluid approach. My focus is to help you achieve changes and goals meaningful to you. I previously worked in a military setting, seeing all branches, both active duty and veterans, and their families. The site was a hospital setting, so I am familiar with healthcare workers and those in high-tempo environments. I then worked for a niche practice specializing in Women’s Issues. I am also an actor and aficionado of theatre and the arts, with experience helping artists bring their work to fruition. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology and hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

She is the most compassionate and most caring psychologist I have ever met. I was dealing with crippling anxiety and Dr. Rennhofer listened to everything that was bothering me and had such great insight into what was causing my issues. I cannot recommend her enough. I plan on seeing her on a regular basis. She adds compassion and humor into her sessions and she is a godsend. Thank you so so much!

The first appointment was purely questions about my background and it was hard to get a read on fit. But I figured I’d go again and see if things felt better during the second session. The second session was much more conversational and natural. I felt like I could not only vent but that Dr. Rennhofer also provided tangible feedback for me to try at home as I work through my emotions. My feelings were validated as we spoke and I walked away feeling confident in my ability to better myself.
