Psychologist
99 Main St, Nyack, NY
Greetings, and welcome. I am a New York Licensed Psychologist and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) with over 15 years of professional experience supporting children, teens, and adults. My work focuses on helping clients better understand and manage anxiety, chronic stress, overthinking, intrusive thoughts, panic symptoms, and the effects of an overactive nervous system. Many clients come to therapy feeling emotionally and physically exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that are difficult to break alone. I provide a supportive, collaborative, and evidence-based approach focused on helping clients build practical coping tools, improve nervous system regulation, strengthen emotional resilience, and feel more grounded and in control in daily life. I also work with clients experiencing co-occurring conditions such as PTSD, Autism, and ADHD, while maintaining a strong focus on reducing anxiety-related symptoms and improving overall functioning.

Getting to know Dr. Kathleen Finn

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that my approach is supportive, collaborative, and focused on helping you better understand what is happening both mentally and physically when anxiety, stress, or nervous system dysregulation become overwhelming. I strive to create a nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported while also working toward meaningful, practical change. Therapy with me is active and goal-oriented rather than just talking about problems without direction. I use evidence-based approaches to help clients build effective coping tools, improve emotional regulation, reduce avoidance and fear-based patterns, and increase confidence in managing symptoms outside of sessions. Many clients appreciate having a structured approach with clear goals, education about the nervous system, and practical strategies they can begin applying in daily life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative, structured, and focused on helping clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and nervous system responses. During the initial sessions, we will explore your current symptoms, stressors, history, and treatment goals while identifying patterns that may be maintaining anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional distress. I also provide education about how anxiety and chronic stress can affect both the mind and body, which many clients find helpful and validating. Sessions are active and goal-oriented while still providing space for support and reflection. Depending on your needs, treatment may incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness-based strategies, nervous system regulation skills, and practical coping tools to help reduce anxiety and improve daily functioning. I often work within a focused 12-week treatment model, followed by reassessment and recommendations for next steps or additional support if needed.
