About Dr. Kenneth Zaslav
A specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Dr. Zaslav practiced for 30 years with a large single-specialty orthopedic group in Richmond, Virginia, before joining the Northwell/Lenox Hill faculty practice. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, completed his residency at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and pursued fellowships at Lenox Hill Hospital and New York University Elaine A. and Kenneth G. Langone Medical Center. Dr. Zaslav was the founding member of the Sports Medicine Center and Cartilage Repair Center at Advanced Orthopedic Centers (now Ortho Virginia) in Richmond, VA, and served as a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Zaslav’s focus has been on shoulder and knee surgery, as well as injuries to athletes and dancers, throughout his entire practice. He has published extensively on shoulder injuries and sports medicine topics. Over the past decade, his research interest has centered on cartilage repair and joint preservation, and he is now involved in orthobiologic and stem cell research. In 1996, Dr. Zaslav performed the first autologous cartilage transplant in Virginia. He has served as President of the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, a Zurich-based society of clinicians and scientists devoted to clinical and basic science research aimed at preserving joints and function in patients with cartilage injury and early arthritis. Currently, he is the Secretary General of the Biologic Association, a U.S.-based group comprising all orthopedic subspecialty societies dedicated to speaking with a single academic voice on stem cell and regenerative medicine topics in orthopedics and rehabilitation. My goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each individual's unique needs.

I found him to have a very poor bedside manner. He interrupted me constantly. Even after he would ask me a question, he would start speaking again before I could even get out “yes or no.” It seemed like he thought I was lying or making up my injury. Saw a different doctor who actually knew how to have a 2 way conversation and lo and behold I do have a torn labrum. Overall, very dismissive and not someone I’d recommend that people see.

Super nice staff, but I had an extremely poor experience with Dr. Zaslav. No bedside manner whatsoever. He is the first doctor I've ever encountered who requires you to do an xray before he even meets with you, regardless of what the issue is. My issue likely would not have showed up in x-ray imaging so I wanted to ask him if it was really necessary to getting unnecessary radiation, and he was so annoyed at me and basically yelled at me saying that there was no way for him to treat me without an x-ray first. I'm really shocked that there are doctors like this who will force you to do unnecessary and potentially harmful tests without even consulting you first or asking you what the problem is.

The doctor was listening to my problems and offered different strategies that make sense before scheduling a potential surgery to remove scar tissue from my knees.
I’ve been traumatized by many doctors in the past because they don’t know what they are talking about and don’t care about making the right diagnosis, but he wasn’t like that, so it definitely give him a 10/10 and A+ for friendliness.

It’s unfair when you spend time researching doctors and reading their backgrounds, only to have them not even bother to meet you.
I did all the X-rays and am not even sure he looked at them. The nurse practitioner I met was really great and patient, but I booked with Dr Zaslav, and he was there but couldn’t be bothered to meet me.

I booked this appointment with the expectation of seeing Dr. Zaslav. Instead I was seen by a Physician Assistant. Though the physician assistant was nice and clear in what the next steps would be, I didn't feel a thorough examination was done to determine the root cause of my pain. The most that was done is have me lift my arms. I asked how they determine if someone has a muscle injury vs a joint injury and was told if I had injured my rotator cuff muscles I wouldn't be able to lift my arms at all when that's not necessarily the case.
The front office was friendly but the medical assistant or nurse had an attitude, almost as if my presence was bothersome. She rolled her eyes while urging me to speed up the paperwork process.
Overall, I don't think I'll be returning to this location. I'm currently seeing a sports medicine specialist and know what good, genuine care looks like. This is not it.

Overall was a wonderful visit. Dr. Zaslev was very personable, and very knowledgeable. His bedside manner is really great, and he did not make me feel rushed at all. He answered all my questions and explained everything to me regarding my condition, what caused it and the treatment options on the table. He did a thorough exam and asked me plenty of questions as well.
We developed a plan, and I did not spend more than 35 mins all in all in the office which included my X-rays that they also did on site. I was very pleased to have found him and I highly recommend.
