Getting to know Dr. Kevin Foster

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a PhD in Psychology from Long Island University Brooklyn and over fifteen years of experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I treat a broad range of clinical complaints and embrace the complexities unique to people of different races, cultures, genders, sexualities, politics, and more. While my orientation is primarily relational and psychodynamic, where applicable, I employ a variety of interventions from other evidence-based modalities. My clinical sensibility has developed in a variety of settings, including schools, community health centers, private practices, inpatient units, and prisons. These invaluable experiences have informed my appreciation and understanding of the intricacies and functioning of the human mind. This work is always reflective and collaborative, often emotional and spiritual, and sprinkled with humor and triumph.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Whether you are working through a difficult period or struggling to manage deeply embedded patterns, therapy can provide the consistent, personalized support that will make all the difference. At your pace, we will explore and broaden your perspectives, clarify and empower your emotional expression, and remove barriers to better mental health and deeper relational intimacy. Very often, this involves the exploration of familial dynamics and relational patterns, which are often littered with events and perceptions that evoke anxiety and avoidance. I provide a warm and non-judgmental space where you may confront, accept, and more comprehensively integrate disavowed or compartmentalized aspects of yourself. The path to change begins with the sharing of your unique experiences, and our work together will move you toward greater happiness and internal harmony. I work with people of all ages, and I specialize in working with adolescents (16+) and adults with the following conditions: anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, borderline personality disorder and emotion regulation deficits, addiction and compulsive behavior, social anxiety/interpersonal skills deficits, race-related stress, conflict in one’s experience of gender and/or sexuality, academic and career challenges, imposter phenomenon, grief/loss, overthinking/intrusive thoughts, and low self-esteem and self-confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide both weekly and intensive psychotherapy via telehealth, at this time. You would schedule an intake on the calendar and we would proceed an intake/consultation session. From there we would assess our fit and explore recommendations regarding what approach and frequency would serve you best.

Very professional. Listens to you very carefully and every word. Shows that he does want to help you and get to the bottom of your problem. Shows that he wants to help you solve what is causing you your pain, depression, ur sadness. Wants to help you move forward and get to a better place in your life. Enjoyed my session with him and looking forward to more sessions with him.

I cant wait to work with him. He was a great communicator and did a great job of empathizing with me and validating my trauma. I look forward to our future sessions and all of the growth that comes from it.

I don’t think the previous reviews do Dr. Foster justice. He truly meets you with extreme kindness and care which for me was extremely needed at the moment. Between his emails sent prior to our session ensuring I knew the proper log-in instructions, the attentiveness to detail when asking follow up questions, and the empathy shown to my situation — it all felt extremely comforting. He’s the first therapist I’ve met that made me excited to return and continue to dive into the work. If you’re in need of a good listener, and a kind and patient provider, he’s definitely the guy.
Fabulous but needs in person space.
