Getting to know Kiran Syed

Aloha, and welcome to my page! I'm Kiran, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years of counseling experience. I completed my degree at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. My pre-doctoral internship was at Asian Americans for Community Involvement in the Bay Area, and I subsequently completed my post-doctoral fellowship at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am licensed at the doctoral level in Hawaii, Texas, and Vermont. The Hawaiian proverb, 'Pu‘ali kalo i ka we ‘ole,' which means 'Taro, for lack of water, grows misshapen,' deeply resonates with my personal philosophy regarding human health and well-being. It reminds us that without proper care and attention, we may struggle to thrive. I have had the privilege of treating clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, religions, and walks of life. My areas of interest include working with empaths or 'energy sensitive' people, addressing men's and women's health, managing fertility stress, providing grief counseling, supporting those with postpartum depression, helping people in the 'helping professions' who may be experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout, guiding clients through quarter and mid-life crises, offering pre-marital counseling, and counseling LGBTQIA populations. My approach to therapy is integrative and leans towards existential/humanistic psychotherapy. I have also been formally trained in short-term evidence-based practices often used in primary care settings, including Behavioral Activation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Problem Solving Therapy-Primary Care. As a National Register Health Service Provider, I am committed to delivering high-quality care. Additionally, I speak English, Urdu, and Hindi fluently, which allows me to connect with a broader range of clients.
