What should a new client know about working with you?

Booking your first appointment for therapy or testing can be intimidating for most of us. As you embark on this journey, it's important to know that you're taking a brave step towards healing and growth. I aim to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. You may feel a range of emotions, from relief and hope to uncertainty and vulnerability, and that's completely normal. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your participation and honesty are key to our work together. While progress may not always be linear, every step forward, no matter how small, is significant. Together, we will work towards understanding your challenges, identifying your strengths, and developing strategies to help you navigate life's ups and downs. Remember, you are not alone in this journey – we are here to support you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy - In most of my sessions the focus is on building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and collaboration. My goal is to create a safe and empathetic environment where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Sessions often begin with the client leading the conversation, discussing what's on their mind or any issues they want to address. In turn, I actively listen, providing reflections and interpretations to help you gain insight into your emotions and behaviors. Together, we explore patterns from the your past that may be influencing your present struggles. I encourage self-exploration and self-discovery, empowering you to make meaningful changes in your life. Throughout our time together, I offer support, validation, and guidance, with the hopes of fostering a deeper understanding of your inner world and facilitating personal growth. Testing - During a psychological testing intake for a new patient, I begin by gathering comprehensive information about the patient's background, presenting concerns, and goals for testing. This may involve completing intake forms and discussing the patient's medical, developmental, educational, and social history. We then explore the specific reasons for seeking testing, such as concerns about cognitive functioning, social development, emotional difficulties, or academic challenges. I also hope to understand the patient's current symptoms, including mood, behavior, and functioning. The intake process also involves discussing the logistics of testing, such as the duration, format, and cost of the assessment. Just as with therapy, I aim to develop a supportive relationship throughout, addressing any questions or concerns you may have and ensuring you feel comfortable and informed about the testing process.
