Getting to know Dr. Kristin Zeising

Dr. Zeising is a California Licensed Psychologist and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist based in California. She recently moved back to the US from Hong Kong, where she worked with clients from over 25 different countries. Dr. Zeising has been working with a wide range of clients facing various issues and from diverse cultural backgrounds for 20 years. She has helped clients in settings such as mental health clinics, hospitals, group practices, and a full-time private practice. She brings a broad range of experience to her work, having provided psychotherapy for children, families, couples, groups, and individual adults, while also teaching classes on stress reduction, couples communication, mindfulness, and overcoming depression. Dr. Zeising completed her undergraduate degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. She completed her internship at Marin County Community Mental Health and her post-doctoral training at Kaiser Permanente in South San Francisco. She is also certified as a Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). This specialized training included extensive coursework in human sexuality, instruction in how to effectively carry out sex therapy with clients who have psychosexual disorders, using specific and compassionate sex therapy techniques and interventions, along with a minimum of 300 hours of supervised clinical treatment. Dr. Zeising confidently treats clients experiencing a broad and varied range of sexual concerns affecting them individually or with a partner.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our first session, we’ll take time to explore what brings you to therapy and what you’d like to get out of our work together. I’ll ask questions to understand your current challenges, relationship history, emotional patterns, medical history and any relevant past experiences. Most importantly, I aim to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and heard—where nothing is too small or too big to talk about. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and active. I integrate evidence-based theories—including psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic therapies and sex therapy interventions—to help you build awareness, shift stuck patterns, and feel more connected to yourself and others. We’ll look at how past experiences shape your current relationships, boundaries, and emotional world, while also focusing on practical strategies for change. Some sessions are insight-oriented, helping you understand what’s underneath your reactions. Others are more solution-focused—working with communication tools, boundary setting, or sexuality concerns. I tailor each session to your needs, always with the goal of deepening self-trust, improving relationships, and helping you live with more ease and clarity. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out. You just have to show up—and we’ll take it from there.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll take time to explore what’s bringing you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. I’ll ask questions to understand your current challenges, relationship dynamics, medical history, and any relevant past experiences. Most importantly, I aim to create a space where you feel respected, supported, and free to be yourself—where nothing is off limits and everything is welcome. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and active. I draw from a range of evidence-based models—including psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, somatic approaches, and sex therapy interventions. Depending on your goals, we may look at how past experiences impact current patterns, or focus on tools and strategies to help you communicate more clearly, set boundaries, navigate intimacy, or reduce stress and reactivity. Some sessions are more insight-driven, helping you understand why you respond the way you do. Others are more action-oriented—addressing specific concerns in relationships, sexuality, or daily life. Every session is tailored to you, with the goal of helping you feel more clear, confident, and connected in the areas that matter most. Therapy with me isn’t about perfection or performance—it’s about showing up, getting curious, and working together toward meaningful change.
