Getting to know Dr. Kylie Pottenger

Are you feeling overwhelmed by scary or disturbing intrusive thoughts, anxiety, or past trauma—especially during pregnancy or postpartum? I specialize in perinatal mental health, OCD, PTSD, and spiritual concerns like religious trauma, doubt, or shame. Many clients I work with are facing more than one of these struggles at once. If you’re exhausted from trying to "hold it all together" while struggling inside, therapy can help. I offer a safe, supportive space where you can find relief, clarity, and healing. You don’t have to carry this alone. There is hope. Hello, I'm Dr. Kylie Pottenger with A New Day Psychology. I have a masters in clinical mental health and a doctorate in clinical psychology. With over 15 years of experience and more than a decade as a licensed psychologist, I have been refining the art and science of therapy for a long time! I use a client-centered and collaborative approach to identify and build on your strengths with the goals of healing, personal growth, and increased overall wellness. I'm a survivor of infertility, post partum anxiety, pregnancy loss, and traumatic birth and I am honored to help others through these struggles. I have a certification through Postpartum Support International, which requires two years of experience with pregnant and postpartum individuals, numerous hours of advanced training in this area, and passing an exam on the latest research and treatment methods for this population. I am also very passionate about working with issues related to spirituality, such as: religious trauma, deconstructing fundamentalist views, religious doubt or shame, or changes in faith in religious beliefs. If you think we would be a good fit, then please reach out to set up a time to meet. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you'll take the first step towards your new beginning!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Everyone’s mental health needs are unique. We will discuss your current concerns and goals, then I will create a custom treatment plan to best meet your needs that incorporates the latest evidence-based treatment methods. I'm a certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider and have advanced training for this, infertility, and ART (IVF, IUI, etc). I am trained in EMDR, often used with trauma. I am also trained in ERP, the gold standard for OCD. **If you choose to book a session with me, I will reach out as soon as possible. I will need to briefly chat with you to get some information and then I will send you the intake paperwork and get you set up with the HIPAA compliant telehealth portal I use. You will need to complete all intake paperwork 48 hours prior to our initial session. Thank you! **

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are usually a mix of deeply processing thoughts, emotions, patterns and themes to help the client have a greater understanding of self combined with relevant interventions and coping skills. I am an inclusive and affirming person and want all of my clients to feel safe and able to be their authentic self. I offer empathy and validation of emotions, and I am also direct and challenge clients when needed. I believe a good therapist should push clients out of their comfort zone, in a warm and compassionate way, so clients can achieve the growth and change they desire. I want to provide you with the information, tools, and support to help you move forward towards a new beginning.
