Getting to know Dr. Laura Patton Van-Buskirk

Presently, Dr. Patton-Van Buskirk is not seeing new patients. Her clients are being directed to her colleagues, Thomas Moushey and Jabari Johnson. Both completed their Master’s degrees at National Louis University, including a year of training under her supervision, plus two additional years. They have extensive experience working with diverse populations. Mr. Moushey’s and Mr. Johnson’s areas of clinical practice are similar to Dr. Patton-Van Buskirk’s, and we are delighted they have joined Solutions Toward Optimal Health. Dr. Laura Patton-Van Buskirk serves as a clinician and clinical director for Solutions Toward Optimal Health. She earned her PsyD from Argosy University and completed her graduate education at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology with a minor in Health Psychology. Her externships included the University of Illinois Medical Center and Northwestern University’s Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Her undergraduate education was completed at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where she worked with adolescents in an inpatient setting and victims of domestic violence. She has been in private practice for over 25 years, helping individuals feel good—whether recovering from trauma or living life well and fully. Currently, she is also adjunct faculty in the psychology department at Roosevelt University and Director of Student Wellness Services at East-West University.

I made an appointment with the Dr. Instead of seeing her, I saw a student in training. I was not told that it would not be the doctor and it was a man, which I clearly made known on my in take paperwork. I find this to be a waste of my time, with all of the intake forms. I find it to be disrespectful with the lack of notice that it was a student, and irresponsible to not pay attention to my clear needs. Very disappointing.

Dr. Laura is an excellent doctor in my opinion. She is very knowledgeable and very easy to relate to. She is insightful and she cares about her patient's well-being. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone in need of her services.
