Dr. Laura Seibert is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist. She earned her Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program through SDSU and the UCSD School of Medicine in 2004. She completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship training through the University of Washington School of Medicine Departments of Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine. Prior to her doctoral program, she also completed a masters degree at UT Austin in Speech/Language Pathology. Dr. Seiberts passion is helping individuals and families grappling with the challenges of life with a neurodevelopmental or neurological disorder, or other chronic medical conditions impacting quality of life more generally. She has spent the last 20 years of her career in medical settings, serving individuals over the full lifespan. While Director of the Neuropsychology Department at Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation in Los Angeles, she worked with both children and adults with neurodevelopmental or neurological disorders. Her pediatric work included performing diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities, and intervening with children and/or their parents to optimize their academic and social skills. Her adult work included conducting inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological evaluations and providing treatment for individuals with strokes, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), spinal cord injuries, and neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, frontotemporal dementia). Dr. Seibert next worked for a national organization, assisting research and evaluating and treating military service members with a history of TBI. Then, over the next decade, she served on staff at Sharp Memorial Hospitals rehabilitation center, conducting neuropsychological evaluations of adults for a wide range of referral purposes (e.g., to distinguish age-related changes versus dementia; to determine capacity for independent living or return to work after a brain injury; to distinguish depression from early dementia, etc.). Her intervention work included helping individuals with anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and other emotional and behavioral challenges that often accompany living with a major medical condition or new disability. Supporting caregivers with their own emotional journeys has also been key. Dr. Seiberts work regularly includes teaching cognitive strategies”whether to improve academic performance or function better despite new impairments or declining skills. She also enjoys teaching research-based lifestyle interventions to potentially slow decline due to normal aging and/or disease. Now with LifeStance, Dr. Seibert is devoted to treating individuals with a wide range of medical conditions or other life circumstances impacting mental health, particularly including those with neurodevelopmental or neurological disorders. Her overriding goal is to help individuals learn or remember their inherent value and ability to find happiness, despite whatever differences or new challenges they have.
