Getting to know Dr. Lea Lavish

I have over 14 years of experience working with Veterans aged 22 to 82. Throughout my career, I have addressed complex cases such as PTSD, depression, grief, brain injury, and anxiety. I have also supported individuals dealing with relationship issues, self-care, and self-esteem challenges. I know that with a little bit of hard work, we can tackle your problems by setting and reaching your goals together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Life is unpredictable at best. In 2016 I was diagnosed with a bilateral middle ear defect that required two craniotomies. From 2018 until the present, I have completed extensive rehabilitation. I realize now that what had begun as perceived deficits following my surgeries are instead a great clinical asset when working with individuals in their process of mental health/physical rehabilitation. This physical disability has made me stronger in many ways including my understanding of what it means to be seen as a fully functioning person one day and then the next day being classified as disabled. I have always believed in a holistic approach to health and wellness and attribute my regained abilities to that belief. I attribute all of these experiences to making me a stronger, well-rounded psychologist.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My overall therapy style I would say is casual. I like to work as a team when working with people. I know it is difficult to open up and tell someone all about yourself, especially the things that are troubling you. It takes pure courage and I deeply respect that.
