Getting to know Dr. Leslie Halpert

I am a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience helping people resolve their concerns and achieve their personal goals. I specialize in working with individuals seeking support in areas such as improving relationships, anxiety, feeling stuck, depression, self-esteem, employment issues, and career concerns. Additionally, I have experience assisting people with parenting and family issues. I help individuals gain insight into how to identify and improve current patterns and create new ones that serve them better. I earned my PhD in Psychology from Yeshiva University and hold a Master's degree in Psychology from the City University of New York, City College.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use therapy to help people gain insight into what troubles them, what motivates them, what the triggers are, how patterns develop, and what keeps them stuck in certain disappointing patterns. With self understanding often comes an improved ability to change and more constructive behaviors are achieved. I also use practical cognitive behavioral techniques with individuals who want to target specific behaviors and habits they want to change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Through our work together you will gain an understanding of the feelings and behaviors that bother you. This leads to the ability to make positive changes in your life. You will gain insight into your feelings and with this learn better ways to cope. You will feel less stuck, have increased self-efficacy, and better grounding in making decisions that improve your lfe.

I've had a very impactful experience working w. Dr. H the last year. He is a great listener and has assisted me in setting and following through on goals I'd like to accomplish for myself and my relationships. I strongly recommend Dr. Halpert's service if you're seeking guidance or clarity on array of categories. (personal relationships, career, mental health + fitness, etc.).
Dr. Halpert helped me tremendously. I was going through a life-changing event and needed professional help. I found Dr. Halpert on Zocdoc and scheduled an appointment. I was seen in a few days and am extremely happy. Today, I'm in a better place with the help of Dr. Halpert.
Dr. Halpert has been our couple therapist for the last few years, and I cannot express how exceptional he is. His dedication and expertise have been pivotal in our journey, and I genuinely believe we wouldn't be happily married today without his support. Dr. Halpert consistently goes above and beyond, from checking in outside of sessions to extending our time when needed. His empathy, professionalism, and innovative techniques helped us navigate some of the toughest times in our relationship where a lot of other psychologists would have struggled. He never clock watched and reflected on our previous sessions ahead of new ones - we were always impressed. Even after moving abroad and losing insurance coverage, we chose to pay privately for additional sessions because he made such a difference. We’ve worked with many top-tier psychologists and Dr. Halpert stands out as exceptional. Highly recommend his services and approach - he is very knowledgeable in his field and patient!
Dr. Halpert is a great listener and has a wonderful ability to analyze and find ways to help me move forward. Our sessions left me feeling much better than I was before our visit.

It was really good

I visited Dr. Halpert, virtually, to initially work through anxiety from work and family. We worked together for a month or so through the root causes of this feeling and mental state and how to coupe with the stresses of life, coming of age, family growth, etc. Dr. Halpert helped me better realize my self worth and how to handle the situations that were ultimately causing these stresses but also worked through ways I could help alleviate the pressures from daily life - mental exercises, physical health, more daily discipline and respecting myself (in my case through better eating and sleeping habits). Following this I went through a divorce and his help was instrumental in seeing myself through this difficult time at a young(er) age. I had fear and doubts about how to tell friends and family, when would be the right time to get back out there, and how this would impact me forever. Through the guidance and coaching in our sessions I'm so proud of where I am today. I'm happy, healthy and thriving. It took a lot of hard work from myself, but I would not be in the place I am nor as happy as I am today without Dr. Halpert's help. I'm grateful
Dr. Halpert creates a safe environment where patients can address their past traumas, and find a path forward. He is thoughtful, kind, and remarkably astute with his patients. It simply does not get much better than him! In our time working together, he has helped me uncover behaviors that have exacerbated challenges in my life and reframe situations so that I feel empowered and confident on how to best proceed, relieving anxiety and stress along the way. After searching for years for the right psychologist, I finally feel seen and heard from Dr. Halpert and I cannot recommend him with a higher regard. I feel lucky to have him as my doctor, and encourage anyone seeking help to work with him.
Dr. Halpert helped me get through this past year and adjust to changes with my career, relationship and life situation. He is very empathetic yet calm, rational and can see situations objectively.
