Getting to know Dr. Margaret Silberman

Is your child having difficulty in school? Do you feel that he or she is not trying hard enough? Or do you believe the school is not providing enough effective support? Perhaps there is a different issue interfering with learning. With a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University, I can complete a comprehensive assessment of your child's strengths and weaknesses and provide recommendations to enhance his or her learning. Another service I offer is advocacy to help you interact with your child's school-whether elementary, middle, high school, or college.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Margaret Silberman, PhD has extensive experience working with schools. She started her career as a special education teacher and then moved on to obtain her PhD at Northwestern University in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Silberman served as a pediatric psychologist at the Dreyer Clinic in Aurora for over twenty years, assessing, treating and as a liaison between families and the local school districts. Dr. Silberman coordinated a summer special needs program at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin which includes children on the autistic spectrum.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My specialty is completing comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological and learning evaluations of children, adolescents and adults. You are first seen for an initial diagnostic interview to understand the issues that require investigation, obtain a complete history and to determine what assessment tools are necessary to define the problem and make effective recommendations. The testing sessions are then scheduled. They are often a combination of in person, online and paper and pencil assessments. Once all of the data is collected, a report is written and a feedback session scheduled with recommendations for in patient, family and/or outside organizations. Other therapists in our office can be available for psychotherapeutic interventions if necessary.
